I have been teaching for 10 years and then took 3 years off to take care of my babies. For financial reasons and because I need the stimulation, I want to go back to teaching.
I was making $20,000 a year but it was a local job and there were no transportation costs. I was being paid that salary for 3 years and when I approached the school they said they would not raise/could not raise that. The school also pays very late and I cannot have to pay childcare on time and then get paid months later.
If you work in the NY area as a teacher- do you make more than that? Are you paid on time? Should I look for a job in another school? Or is it all the same?
Unfortunately, I do not have a degree in education but I have a lot of experience and I am a master educator (its amother so I can say that Smile. I know for some schools the lack of a degree will be a turn off, but I want to try and broaden my horizons.
What would you do?

I think you should start working towards your degree. Even if it takes a while. Also, if you've taught for 10 years it's likely you can get credits for experience.

Unfortunately in my experience the well run, efficient schools (ie. pay on time and can increase salary) are also the ones that want qualified teachers.

I think the last poster is spot on......look to train on the job to qualify in your current school or start working towards a degree.

Another school may be better, you could try...but definately worth trying to train on the job whether you stay or move on.
