We got our DVD/VCR combo for less than $100 (I think it was around $80) over a year ago from Wal Mart. It's not a major brand like sony or magnavox, but it works fine.
If you just want a DVD player, you can probably find something for $40.
If there's a specific brand that you want, go to epinions.com and see which store has it for the lowest price.
