Im not asking, do you blow it out or not....
Funnily enough I always had the idea not to, and a Rebitzen I asked when I got married, said she had never heard of not blowing it out. I wasn't convinced there was NOTHING in it (I cant remember if my mother does or doesnt, I must ask her!), so anyway, I didnt and since then I found it in a sefer I own that some have the minhag not to blow it out.

My question is on more of a practical basis; do you leave it on the tray? Put it in the bin? Is it a hefsek if you dispose of it before the brocha?

My MIL has a little metal pot type thing that she drops the match into, I would love one but it wasnt designed for this purpose (and its very old) and she doesnt know how to find one for me.

I was just wondering what other ladies do...

I put it into the garbage can and I dont blow it out, I shake it out.

My MIL puts it into a metal candle holder like these (http://www.amazon.com/Safety-Metal-Candle-Holder-Drip/dp/B0057H6ZL4/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1326313818&sr=1-2) and lets it burn out there.

my mother shakes it out and puts it on the tray

I put aluminum foil under the candles, and drop the match on that, still burning. It goes out quickly. This is what my mother does. I never was told to do it this way.

I BLOW IT OUT so it doesn't make a fire. I went to a Shabbos event in a hotel once where the ladies all lit in the dining room. No one wanted to blow it out because apparently some seforim say it's like summoning a demon? so instead they just "dropped it" on the tray which was not fireproof and it started a fire. So I blew it out quickly, no harm done. And when I lit I BLEW OUT my own candle. Common sense, ladies.

I am Sephardi by marriage and I make my bracha after striking the match but before lighting my candles. I cannot do anything that will intentionally lead to putting out the match - even though I may, of course, light my candles. What I do is light a candle, say the bracha and use the candle to light my Shabbat candles. I then put the candle into an extra holder. If my older kids or dh is around they might blow out the extra candle if they appear within a few minutes.

it's aloud to shake or blow off the match as long as the brachah wasn't made yet,but only if you didn't take upon otherwise when you first started lighting candles.

If I'm lighting using a match then I shake it out, don't put it down until I'm done bentching licht/davening and then I put it directly into the garbage. That would be if it only took 1 match to do all of the licht. However, I'm petrified of fire so it usually takes me at least 3 or 4 matches to get through my licht - so those get put on the tray until after Shabbos.
Dh has rachmonis on me and get me a lighter - it's this long handled thing - sometimes hard for me to do because it has 2 things that you have to do simultaneously to get it to light - and then I don't have such difficulty lighting. That, I put in the drawer beneath the licht after I've lit and then I bentch licht.
On three day yuntivs, dh helps me light - I really don't like holding fire at all.

I use a lighter, which I stick behind the little Yehi Ratzon plaque I have behind my candles. (I light on a shelf.)

This. I was told that blowing or shaking it out was not okay.

I have a small piece of aluminum foil near my candles. I put the lit match on the foil and it goes out by itself.

I used to do that until I burned a hole in the match box. When I bought my house I got left with some vases by the previous owner that I wouldn't use. One of them was short so not even big enough for flowers. I now use that.

I shake it out and drop on the tray kinda under the candlestick so no one can see it. After shabbos it goes in the garbage.

Just as a side point maya, is it not a bit dangerous to put the match, still lit, on top of the matchbox? I have heard stories of people accidentally doing that and the whole box goes on fire.

I use the match which is in a silver holder to light a candle which is in a silver holder which I then light from.

The match I drop on the tray which I hate doing. The silver holder has a screw which I then turn to drop the candle which goes out by itself.

I strike the match from the strike plate on the match box which is exposed in its little silver holder.

I was taught to drop it, specifically NOT putting it down or blowing it out.
