Is it true that if you freeze a piece of bread along with a bag of cookies, the bread will absorb moisture and the cookies will be less stale and more fresh when you take them out of the freezer?

I'm making a trillion rugelach right now, so I'd love to know for when I start wrapping them up to freeze them later.

TIA!

Never heard of that, but I think the key is to wrap them well. Always double wrap -- like 2 sealed ziplock bags. Wrapping in foil isn't good enough. I'd even ideally wrap in foil first and then in 2 ziplocks.

Good plastic containers also help.

Bread is one of the first things in my freezer to go stale. Once there is something stale it tends to share its stale taste, so I could see the bread idea totally backfiring. I haven't tried it to know though.

Liba, I agree with your suggestion of using a good plastic container. That always works well for me. I never heard of the bread idea either, but I've frozen all sorts of cookies in plastic containers with excellent results.

I've heard that for storage out of the fridge or freezer, not in. but try it and see how it goes for you. and report back, if you remember.

Thanks, everyone!

Now someone told me that storing a paper towel with frozen cookies will help, as that will absorb excess moisture. This didn't sound too risky, so I tried it.
