I need a shabbos robe.
Seriously, it is getting really frustrating.
My requirements are pretty simple: a front zipper for nursing, not a jumper, washable, brown, black or if desperate dark navy, and no rhinestones or gaudy detailing in size medium.
I understand the cost about $100 so I consider it an investments of sorts assuming that I will wear this robe weekly but I can't find one.
My mother looked in BP for me and couldn't find. Everything they are showing is jumpers, teal or royal blue or gaudy.
I looked online and finally found a single option, not amazing but ok it would work- oops they don't have my size.
Right now I am a size medium but I'm in the process of losing weight, I'll need to buy a size medium but if what if it doesn't fit me at all in 5 months. Speaking of which everything showing now is velour/velvet, which means I can only wear it in the winter- will I have to go through this search and spend another $100 in the spring?
Any advice? links?

Same issue here (but I am petite, and it's even harder as there are very few petite robes that don't swallow up my shoulders).

I ended up wearing velvet in the summer.
This site seems to have zip front robes: http://www.thelingerieshopny.com/productlist.php?cid=3&sid=6

Here is an inexpensive medium non-velvet one:

I know what you mean...everything here is two piece.

Try saposh in BP. I saw there some one piece, non velour, front zip with a nice bow on the side.

I found exactly what you're looking for (for myself) in Lakewood- and it was only $50! Pretty recently too. Of course, this only works if you're planning on visiting Lakewood any time soon. However, not long after I got my Shabbos robe, I saw the same thing in BP for about 3X the price. Forgot the name of the store though- I remember it was on 13th ave and 40 something street.

I would just wait for spring for the non-velour. In fashion, Spring is coming really soon, sooner than you might think - winter is clearancing already. And much of the time even in winter, indoors is heated so velour ends up being too warm anyway. So if you only want to do this once, just sit tight and do it in the Spring.

I had a hard time in the spring, too, though. But that was two springs ago and my budget was limited so maybe there's hope for you. I ended up with a wraparound style instead of zipper which is not bad for nursing but it does need a dickey or shell, which I feel defeats the purpose of an easy-on one-piece.

I actually like wearing a shell under a robe when nursing, since it covers the top while the robe is opened.

I make my own, solves the problem. The winter ones are velour, the summer ones are cotton stretch. All have zippers down the front. Used to be able to get decent stuff imported, but havent seen much lately.

I just bought a very pretty robe for my teenage dd (in Israel, so possibly not that much help to you Wink)
it has zippers in the seams under each arm for nursing. I thought that was so clever!

Why don't you have one made? It's really not that complicated, and you will probably save money too.

Would you consider a two piece robe?

That should work well for nursing, and the stores have a nice selection. Besides, you can probably find a top for way less in department stores, and just get a nice long skirt in the robe store to match.

First of all, $100 isn't a lot of money for a robe. $500 is a lot of money for a robe. Have you ever been to Act 7 in Flatbush?

What if you don't get anything terribly fancy? What about something in plain black that you can dress up if you want to ? You can get a plain black collared robe from jc penny most probably, or other discount stores.

I'm not sure why you don't want a jumper (maybe because you need a shell but I find it great for nursing. I slide down the shoulder and lift the shell (I wear a cropped one) and am more covered then with a zippered robe.

I know you said you don't want velour, but just so you get an idea of what I mean by a two piece robe. I actually like this one, I pulled it up in a quick search.

You should get something with a collar, Lampy. That neckline might not be good for you.

Aren't they a stiff material? how do you slide it off?
I dont have nice arms and look broad in jumpers but I'll look into this option

The one I have is a soft velour (I know that isn't the material you want). Its very soft and slides easly up and down. I got it from Tabeez in lakewood, I think they made it, they reopened recently but I don't see it on their website. It wasn't so expensive.

http://www.ettiescollection.com/shabbos_robes.html

try etties collection, they have them in most frum shops where robes are sold. I have mine in a slinky type material, and one is a little heavier, but not velour. all zip in the front. extremely comfortable!!! I think they are less than $100.
