Our friend's daughter is having bat mitzvah soon and we want to send them a gift (they live out of town, we won't be present at the celebration).
Is a fresh girls perfume a nice present? I thought of Clinique Happy.
Are bat mitzvah girls wearing a perfume yet? Or can it be forbidden in their school (chassidish)?

Perfume for a mainstream chassidish girl 12 years of age? I don't think so.

How about a gift certificate to a bookstore?
Or a candy package from a sweethouse for the actual party?

jewellery, a book token, or gift card. Not perfume.

OP here

Anything else? Books and gift cards are not an option because they live in a different country.
What kind of jewelry can I get for 50 dollars or less? Something cute and silver?

Why CAN you mail a perfume to another country, but CAN'T mail a book? I would have guessed the opposite!

There's an ad here on the site for bitzofglitzonline.com.

for a bar/bat mitzvah I'd try to give a gift that celebrates or emphasizes the fact that this person is now a full-fledged member of the Jewish people and obligated in the mitzvot. This means something mitzvah-themed: an item of Judaica or a Jewish book, with an item of Jewish-themed jewelry bringing up the rear. If they have access to a computer, you could send them a gift certificate to Feldheim or Mesorah or another Jewish publishing house, or a big Judaica store like Eichler's or Tuvia's and let them order what they like from there.

OP, why dont you say where your sending your gift to and if someone on this site is from there they can tell you of a judaica store there and you can get a sefer for her.
or the same for a jewelry store in that area as well.
