I'm not much of a singer and I rarely listen to music. Most of the songs I know are children's songs. Whenever one of my children ask me to sing or I offer to sing to them for whatever reason, I always sing "sing a song of sixpence". Laughing

What about you?

To my intense disappointment, my kids have never asked me to sing anything. I used to have a huge repertoire of songs, few of them specifically children's songs, but put me on the spot and say "sing something" , I'd probably be able to come up with just one song, too.

Longer, serious bedtime songs:
Come with me, little neshamala...
The schoolyard's filled with children...
In a village far away...

Daytime, and bathtime, whimsical songs include:
I love you in the morning and in the afternoon...
I love you, you love me (Barney's version)...

Either "hashafan hakatan"
or "boom boom went the little green frog one day" Smile

ETA: I read the thread wrong. I thought you asked what would they ask you to sing.
if I had to pick a song, it would just be some song my daughter knows.

My children started asking me NOT to sing at age 2. They weren't dumb. Anyway, I'd probably come out with whatever I heard last.

Would you be able to post the lyrics please? I vaguely remember the song from elementary school.

I love you, a song my mother used to sing to me...and then to my children, and I sing to my grandchildren

I love you, yes I do, I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie
millions of hearts have been broken
just because those words are spoken

I love you, yes I do, I love you
If you'll break my heart, I'll die
so be sure it's true, if you say I love you,
it's a sin to tell a lie.

Schoolyard filled with children
Running happy, running free
Smiles on youthful faces
Lively shouts of glee
But watching from the window
In a brace that's made of steel
Sits a lonely little boy
Whom doctors cannot heal

I want to run he whispers
But my legs refuse to go
I want to hold a pencil
But my hands just tremble so
They say I cannot learn much
But I know it isn't true
Tatty, Mommy, someone help me
Show what I can do

Ten Tikvah LaYeled
Give a child a chance
To hope for something better
To do all that he can
Help him build a future
Every child has one to show,
Ten Tikvah LaYeled
Give a child a chance to grow

In a baby's carriage
Lies a pretty little girl
Eyes that shine and sparkle
Like the sunlight on her curls
She smiles at passing strangers
As they stop to say how sweet
But they don't know this little girl
Can't move her hand or feet

Her mother well remembers
The verdict of that day
The doctor shrugged his shoulders
And said send her away
There's no hope for her future
So best accept it now
Her mother held her tight and said
We'll find a way some how

Ten Tikvah LaYeled
Give a child a chance
To hope for something better
To do all that it can
Help him build a future
Every child has one to show,
Ten Tikvah LaYeled
Give a child a chance to grow
