Does anyone here live in Houston and can tell me alittle bit about the community and the schooling? My dh is looking into the kollel there and we want to know more about it. We also heard there have been some changes in the community recently and wanted to know what that means. thanks!

I'm sorry I don't have any concrete info, but I did read a whole spread about the community this week in the community section of Hamodia, all about the new principal in one of the schools. Perhaps Hamodia or the writer would be able to get you in touch with people there.

I am also interested in Houston and Austin Tx- did you find out anything about the communities there? Are they at all Heimish? What kind of parnassah options are there?

I have a friend that lives there. There are a very small number of shuls - 2 OU shuls (one she says is more Conservadox than Orthodox), a Young Israel shul which is where the "frummer" set goes and then the Meyerland Minyan which is an outreach minyan. There is also a lot of Chabad outreach but not congregations. I've known several people that moved there and left. They were not happy with any of the options.
