Help! I have squirels or rats in my roof

For the past year I have heard some sort of rodent scratching my ceilings. Today I went into one of my bedrooms and I see a hole in my ceiling about the size of a nickel. I am petrified that these rodents will come into my home. I have no access to the crawl space in my attic.
I previously made a hole in the wall near the attic and saw all the insulation messed up but didnt see anything running around.

Do you live in an apartment building? My friend had this and went to the board of health in the attic there were squirrels they had chewed the wiring and insulation. The Landlord then had to take care of the problem.

I live in a house which I own. I will not go to the board of health and get my self into trouble.

I spoke to an exterminator - he says he cant do anything b/c you cant kill squirels and I have no access to put a trap inside my roof.

squirrels climb from the trees to the top floors of houses and make holes. Evil or Very Mad

it helps to cut the trees away from the house. or you can get someone to make a one-way trapdoor over the hole the squirrels made that lets them out but not in again.

I've had 4 different contractors come down to my home to look for holes in my roof and near my roof. they couldnt find a single hole.

GR - what type of a professional would I call to install this trap door once I do find a hole?

I think it's an exterminator but make sure he says he deals with big rodents like squirrels. I think most of them do.
a while back my bil had 15+ squirrels living in his house! he couldnt believe it when he saw how many were just making themselves comfortable.

if there are no holes to get in and out, they might die in there!

Tape up the hole with HEAVY tape. This way you don't have to be scared of them coming into your house.

also- gut away trees that they're using as a method onto your roof.

They are no fun. We had them on our roof when we lived in an apt. Only diff. was we moved out and left the problem for the next tenants..... unfortunately you can't do that. Sad

They could be squirrels or racoons. Be very wary of racoons urinating on your ceiling. The urine is very strong and could eventually soften the ceiling and an animal could fall through. They are sometimes rabid!. Call some humane wildlife place. They set traps, and remove the captured animal humanely. It costs a fortune, but unless you plan to trap they yourself,you have no choice!

Does any one know of an exterminator that would use poison against squirells.

What is the likely hood of racoons in brooklyn?

here in canada there are government controls on killing rodents, and you should make sure to check your by laws in Brooklyn. You can get a huge fine for using poison to kill these animals.

It is illegal to kill squirels but I am so annoyed by them and it is sometimes scary to hear them especially now that they broke thru the ceiling. I just have to get rid of them..

Why dont you look online and see what others have done to kill the rodents, but it may be nesting time, and then the rodents are giving birth, so many will not give you advice on killing those cute little nasty creatures!

illegal to kill squirrels? even if the squirrels are in your home?? sounds fishy

we have/ we had

Raccons in our attic

we se traps and used LOX as bait

when we catch those monsters in the cages

we free them 45 minutes away from our home

we have used a service before

and they charged us $450 bucks
