I love to decorate cakes; I've never yet tried rolled fondant.
I found a recipe, but it uses glycerin. I have no idea what that is or where to find it. Anyone know anything about this ingredient or perhaps someone has a recipe with ingredients I can find. Thanks

I took a wilton cake decorating class and we used fondant - it was premade and kosher pareve0 I bought it at Michaels We used white and colored it pink. The cake was made to look like a wrapped present and came out beautiful - I don't care for the taste of fondant though. Could you post your recipe. Can't help you with what glycerin is though.

HEres' a recipe I found in a cookbook, I dont' know how good it is, but the book has millions of decorated cakes all made with fondant...

Makes about 350g/12oz/2.25 cups

1 egg white
1tbsp liquid glucose warmed (could probably use Light Corn Syrup)
350g / 12oz confectioners' sugar
sifted sugar

Pur the egg white and glucose into a mixing bowl. stir them together to break up the egg white.

add the icing sugar and mix together wiht a palette knife using a chopping acction, until well blended and the icing begins to bind together. knead the mixture with your fingers until it forms a ball.

knead the sugar paste on a work surface slightly dusted with icing sugar for several minutes until smooth, soft and pliable. if the icing is too soft, knead in some more sifted sugr until it reaches the right consistency.

.Wilton makes glycerin. 1 use is to add a bit to hardened fondant to soften it. try their website. If you are in NY, Happy Home, Peppermill have it.

I was going to say Wilton. They have both the Glycerin & ready-to-use fondant. Both are pareve. Do NOT buy Wilton Glucose...it does NOT have a hechsher! (However, if you can find glucose with a hechsher, the Wilton scratch recipe is very easy to make.)

BTW, the recipe above looks like a recipe for royal icing, not fondant. Certainly not 2.5c of fondant!

Fondant is great if you have a child with celiac and can not use play dough. My son really loved it when he was younger. We use to make all kinds of special Shabbos treats with it. If you want more info and ideas PM me.
