I'm quite loathe to leave gas on for 3 days. Got a new shabbat oven (with 72hrs+ mode) but will need something to warm up soup for the 2nd day. What is everyone doing? (Obviously assuming you're home and entertaining/

my husband holds that since we have a gas stove and there is always a fire burning in the pilots then I can turn the stove-top and oven on and off as necessary.

Plata & crockpot.

I actually didn't think about the soup until just now.... either I will use the crockpot or see if I can find where the gas line is here (just moved) and use the "hagaz" thing. Thanks for the reminder!

I have oven, stove top + blech (that goes over stove top) instead of keeping the plata on.
I use a chagaz (YT gas timer).

I have a warming drawer, will probably use that, but may leave 1 gas burner on as well. If I don't do the warming drawer (it is a safety issue for one child) then the crock pot.

Just plata. The soup has plenty of time to heat up on it.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll keep plata on timer for the soup/reheating cooked foods. I'll need to cook for shabbat on the second day, so will probably have to leave both meaty and milky oven on at higher temperature.

If you heat soup on the platta, don't use tall, narrow pots, but wide ones not filled too high, and allow several hours for it to get very hot (a problem on the second night). The heat is not as powerful, it takes hours to get very hot, and soup far from the platta can go sour before it gets hot.

I also go the platta way.

Actually, I have two - one for regular and one for Pesach. I'm sure there are a few other old ladies like me that have them.

I have a blech+plata+oven on timer.

you can turn on gas if it is manual. ie you light it with a match not a button but not turn it off.
