Food stamps card ISSUES - anyone gone through this before?

I've been on medicaid for a while, just qualified and was approved for foodstamps. They use the same card. Since my card was getting old (and the magnetic strips on those cards are very poor quality), it was demagnetized.

I ran out of food stamps $ on Monday and was supposed to get more on Friday. I was anyway in the medicaid office on Monday and requested a new card (so that I'd have a working magnetic strip). New card showed up Friday, but according to the phone help line, neither card was in the food stamps system! (I'd called before to check balance on the old card and it was fine.)

So now I have two cards and neither works! I guess I'll go to the office tomorrow but I was hoping to use some of the money today.

Has anyone experienced this before? And advice? Any number that I can call that answers on Sundays?!

PS I'm in Brooklyn.

call them before going down. these days they do it over the phone.

When we were first approved for food stamps and received the card, it didnt work. We got the card on friday. By monday it was in the system and working fine. I think they just needed time to register it. I am not in NY.
