Are you on a budget? If you are, you might do well buying them at Home Depot or the like, and having one of the heimishe handymen install it for you.

Blinds means horizontal. If you want vertical, you have to ask special for that.

any stores in boro park and flatbush I can go to? Home Depot said it would take weeks for an appointment and I'd like to have it done sooner.

Why don't you just purchase your own from Home Depot and then have a local guy install it for you?

I don't live in BP, but any handyman would/could do it.

There is one or more window shade places on Coney in the ave J - L area. I got a quote from Katz and I think his prices are probably the best and he comes recommended and is very nice. I plan on getting a quote from the place on Coney to be sure, and then I'll probably order from Katz.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I did try lowes/home depot but it will take too long to come measure and install.

I checked out a few places today. I got some of their names from the Hunger Douglas website. Btw, Katz gave the most expensive quote out of all of them. The cheapest was Best Service Decorators - 1796 45 st. (438-4859). Another one which had a bigger selection and cost slightly more was Exclusive Home Fashions at 1574 45 st. (435-3000) the one on coney between k and l- the owner was not in. He's on vacation so couldn't really get information. Each place I went to I learned something new. So it's good to visit a few places. Only thing I'm not so happy about- is that wood blinds can get ruined by rain, so we can't keep the windows open when it rains or at night.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Which shades and colors are you interested in? I wanted imitation Silouette for my LR/DR and was going to get faux wood for the rest of the house. If you want a wood color, you can get wood, but otherwise I think the faux wood ones don't get ruined from rain. I was under the impression that he gave me a very good price on the imitation sillouettes, but its possible that he was more expensive for the other blinds. Also, can you please tell me some of the things you learned?

-I wanted wood for bedrooms. Dark Shade like chestnut for master bedroom. and for dd room, it's getting really hard to find a real wood shade- she needs a really light "white washed/bleached" kind of shade to match her furniture. (I don't know about silouette because we're not getting that)
I know plastic won't get ruined by water, however, one of the shades we need is 5 feet width-which would make it really heavy if it was fake (the fake wood is much heavier.) If I wanted to split it up (because there are 3 windows in one moulding in that span of 5 ft) there would be a gap between the three blinds.
- Also the bigger the slat (is that the right word?) size, the more you'll see out the window (there'll be fewer slats when shades are completely up)--but bigger slats are also more expensive.
Hunter Douglas is expensive, Graber is supposedly the cheaper daughter company.
-You can get tapes-to run along blinds, but I hate the look and it's more expensive.
-There is warranty on some of them.
-Something about the paint peeling on the fake wood blinds is a possibility.
I'm still not sure who we'll end up using. I'm not sure how many years in business some of the places are, and I want someone experienced but not too expensive.

op. thanks for all the suggestions.
I had a question for anyone who has dark wooden blinds in their bedroom--does it darken up the entire room? (a shade like mahogany)? What colors did you get? and did you match it with furniture?
