Mysterious nightly vomiting

well the dread scenario came about - he woke up at 9:15 pm after an hour of sleeping an is STILLL AWWAAAAAAAAAKE. He's playing in his crib with toys - I have no clue what to do anymore!!!! BH at least he didnt throw up tonight.

If he wakes up, ignore him. As long as he's not crying or throwing up, just ignore him. Don't go in to him, don't turn on any lights, nothing!! My sonny boy started this mishigas not too long ago. First until he goes to sleep he stands up and just screams and cries. I go in, shush him, lay him back down and I leave. Before I even have a chance to close the door, he's up again and still crying. I give him about a minute or so, and do the same thing again and again for at least 10 minutes until he gets the message that now is sleeping time. I've had it more than once that after an hour he woke up, I didnt go in to comfort him, I just ignored him and he went back to sleep. That's why I don't keep toys in the crib. He has to learn that when it's time to sleep, you sleep.

): take them to the window and show 'em it's dark outside and tell 'em they have to go to sleep!!!

didnt work.
he played for two hours!!!1 until I gave him a bottle of apple juice and he fell asleep - at 1 am!!!

well, Mindy, you should've called me, because low and behold, last night my 2 year old woke up at 12:30 and refused to go back to sleep. She wanted me to take her out of the crib, but I wouldn't give in. I sat next to her crib for awhile trying to talk her into laying down, but she just wouldn't. Finally I gave up and walked out, said goodnight, and went to bed. She cried for about 15 minutes, then fell asleep. Had I known it was toddler partytime, I would've gotten her together with your son, so they can keep each other company and we can sleep! Laughing

BH 2 nights of no vomiting, I'm hoping it's history!

My 10 month old has been projectile vomiting for over 6 months. We put him on a formula for reflux as a previous baby had reflux. I could always tell when he would vomit as he would kvetch and look as though he was in discomfort. Around 4 months ago he started vomiting blood...barely noticable at first and not in every vomit.
Bt it was worse at night and if there was going to be blood it would on average be at night and usually after he was put down. It got to the point that we know somthing was not right when he still could not tolerate solids. After solids was his worse time as he would be in such severe pain and would ultimatly vomit blood. This is when it was at it's worse and nearly happened every day in the week before going for the procedure.
We finally were given a referal to a specialist after months of quizing whether this was normal to our GP. He had a look down the esophogus (I know this has to be spelt wrong...) and found he had a hiatus hernia and ulceration of the esophogus. He showed me pictures and It was quite clear why there was blood in the vomit. Eating solids must have been pure agony. Even today we do not have him on solids as he is to scared. He pushes it away with determination.
He is now on strong medication for another 6/7 weeks b' h and since having the medication he has been happy no vomiitng etc knane hara.
My point is that you really should get this night time vomiting checked out as the ulceration was caused by reflux which we all assumed was under control with the special additive to the formula. But the reflux was so bad it was just causing damage. We have been told that if we had not get it checked it could become chronic and have the potentioal to change the nature of cells in that area etc....
There was no blood at the beginning just night time vomiting...
I really hope this is not the case but I know for myself that heartburn is worse at night!!
Don't assume it is a reaction to milk or any type of food. All the best...hope it gets better soon.

Don't use food as a way to get your son to sleep-it increases tooth decay, obesity later in life. As for the throwing up, it is a common symptom in children with acid reflux. Just give him water before bed if he is thirsty and see what happens.
