My girls dump out the left-over water from last Shabbos and refill with water. I pour oil in, prepare the floating wicks and singe them. The girls put the wicks in. As they get older, I will let them do everything but singe the wicks.

Either my husband or an older child or a shliach for my husband as he sick and disabled and often not up to doing it. We use oil and wicks.

CM, you have to keep up with me! Very Happy

We moved from Indiana in mid-May to Honolulu for 3 months while my husband works at the Uni of Hawaii's East-West Center. Actually, he is coming back from two weeks in Japan as we speak. After this trip we will move to Silver Spring MD for a year or so (maybe Japan after that). So I am using candles while here and I prepare them, but when I get my leichter back, it will be as above...

My husband, 99% of the time. If we're running really late and he can't do it, then I do it.
Wax candles 99% of the time, oil occasionally.

we use candles in olive oil, and love how they look. I actually just complimented dh this week that no matter how busy the week he always remembers to prepare them. Shabbos, and especially oneg shabbos is one of his favorite mitzvos. He also polishes the candlesticks (along with his kiddush cup) every 2 to 3 weeks.

My husband is he remembers, but mostly I do and we use wax candles. Oil doesn't seem to work with me, maybe I'm not using it right. Suggestions?

I use paraffin oil and refill on Motzash so I don't have to think about it on Friday.

I use candles. It doesn't take more than a few second to stick them in the candleholders. I can do it all by myself. Smile

I grew up in a home where my dad a"h always set up my mom's candles (including lighting the wicks and putting them out). I wouldn't dream of doing it myself!

I think there is an inyan for the man of the house to do it. My father always did it, however busy he was, so it is very hard for me to remember to do it. I keep expecting DH to do it, but he does not seem aware of the concept.

We use tealights and candles though, so it is pretty quick. My 3 year old can do the tealights.

I do it every week. It's rare that dh comes home with much time before shabbos, if he gets home in time at all. He's a doctor....he comes home when he can but it's usually not early enough to help with anything, especially in winter when he comes home hrs after shkiah. I always jokingly tell my oldest boy that he's the man of the house on shabbos when dh has to work. Smile

My dd does it because each of my kids have a job to do for shabbos and that's hers.

We "prep" the wicks on motzei shabbas by lighting them from the havdalah candel and then blowing it out - it makes it easier to light on eruv shabas - and we start preparing for the next shabbas when the previous shabbas is over....
then I put the candels into the candel holders and either my husband or I take them out on eruv shabbas
