I dont have experience with buying one that wasn't kosher before but I have one and I kashered it for Pessach,
All I did was wash it really well and then turn on the elements on the highest setting for 10 minutes.

I'm sephardi and I was told that ashkenazis may not be able to kasher it this way so you should ask your rabbi. good luck!

As Bella wrote, it's no problem for Sepharadim.
I'm not sure about Ashekenazim.
I don't think that just the glass can be replaced.

Ashkenazim cannot kasher a glasstop stove. Its not a big deal for the year, I just don't eat anything that falls on the stovetop. Pesach, we have 2 sets of plug in burners and it works fine for us.

THis ashkenazit was told by her ashkenazi rav that I could kasher the stove by cleaning it, and then running it on high until the element was red (and no, my rav is not, by any stretch of the imagination, "modern Orthodox"). So your askenazi mileage can vary. Consult your personal LOR, obviousy.

I'm ashkenazi, and we kashered ours by cleaning well (they make special cleaners you can buy in the supermarket if glass tops are common in your area, otherwise go to a hardware store) then we left it on high for a long time, and then I think Dh ironed it after pouring boiling water over it. But ask your LOR.

our lor said we cannot kasher it, however our neighbours do (they asked a diff lor ). we are both ashkenazi. it really depends on what your rav holds.

btw. it is fine for us to eat by our neigbours (according to our lor), I dont really understand how these things are paskened).
