How does blogging work?

Hi folks,

I am looking to start a blog but have a few questions...

1. a topic... any ideas??? ive thought of recipes, etc... but im not sure what else. ladies, throw any and all ideas my way, you never know what ill pick;)

2. how does it make money? how much do you make when you start out? how does it work to make you earn more etc.

3. how do you get followers?

4. what else do I need to know, before I start a blog?

It depends on your reason for blogging.

I tell clients who have websites that if they make a blog it will attract attention and we can do some search engine optimization on it to get them more business.

If you don't have a website but just want to blog you can
1. offer someone who does to blog for them for pay
2. make a blog and be an affiliate for some products
4. make a blog and put adsense on it so you get paid when people click on the ads

If you are blogging for fun and you make money as a side, then great. The job market for "professional bloggers" peaked in the 1990's. There is money out there, but it is slow going and it's a nickel here and a dime there. If you're looking for a real income from home, try content writing instead.

I firmly believe that you need to blog about something you're passionate about. If you write about what more people want to read about, but you have no interest in the topic, it shows.
