Sefiras haomer

Do you count sefiras haomer with your kids at night and do you count the correct day?

I like to count with my (young) kids at night before bed--as learned in school...but they go to sleep before the time it's okay to count. They're still at an age where I need to say it "for" them--but can identify the numbers and stickers on the chart.
The mornings here are rushed--waking up at different times, I go to work early and they know that you're supposed to "count at night.'

What do you do?

In that case I might just point out that since they have to go to bed before it's really night, the number we are counting is for when it will be night and the following morning.
