Since we're kvetching...

I know that there is no food in the house, but PLEASE send something in your child's lunch that is not just nosh you're trying to get rid of. I can't tell you how many kids are coming in with 5 candies and a bag of chips and maybe a yogurt.

Your child is, um, not in the best of moods right now. None of us are. Dropping off a child to preschool who was literally just picked up out of bed and dropped in the car, maybe holding a piece of cheese for breakfast, helps neither of us. You will not get back a calmer, happier child. A good night's sleep and as calm a morning as you can manage will help everybody in the long run.

Please tell the Morah if you are going out of town before school ends. We can pack up all the projects and have everything ready if we know. However you feel about the projects, with or without glitter and staples, your child will cry all the way to Bubbe's house if the Haggadah cover wasn't laminated yet and is still in the school office, and the fancy pillow case is still full of wet paint and can't come home.

Lastly, just like there are all kinds of preschool Morahs, there are all kinds of Mommies. Thank you for sending me your cutie-pie, and thank you for all the help you've given me all year!

Cheers
Have a wonderful, rewarding, restful, stress-free Pesach, and enjoy your kinderlach and all their projects!

It's a very tough time now for everyone, kids and adults alike. Less sleep, less normal food, parents are constantly busy, etc.

Believe me, everyone is feeling it.

Thank you Morah Sara for what you do and your dedication.

morah sara, I bought more cereal for the kids today. they didn't want their breakfast of cottage cheese and crackers. (they usually love it, but apparently they miss their cereal.) I know they get breakfast in school, but they like having breakfast twice. I wish you lots of luck with your students. I remember parents sending in crackers and ez cheez type dip-- snack sized. for lunch. oh, and the three yr old with tradition soup was a blast to deal with...

thanks for being aware of this. I hope my kids always have morahs who are aware of the affects of food on children.

I hear you except for the part about the yogurt. I send my child with a yogurt for lunch almost every day. And I think I am being a good Mommy. What is wrong with yogurt?

Yogurt paired up with a fruit and a sandwich, is fine. But yogurt paired up with candies and crackers isn't.

It's not the yogurt itself, although it isn't always filling enough to tide a kid over from 8 - 4. It's that the yogurt is the only healthy thing in the whole lunch, and kids will throw it out after 2 bites to get to all that nosh.

Why isn't yogurt and crackers a good lunch? Whole grain ones? Sure, no fruits or vegetables, but it's no different from a peanut butter sandwich (protein + carbs).

And maybe the child is like mine and loves to snack on fruit when he gets home from school?

Sorry, just in an argumentative mood now, I guess.

Yogurt and crackers is a great lunch just like pb&j sandwiches. But if that's the only healthy food your kid will have 'till he gets home, it's not enough and the sugar and junk from the rest of the foods will make for an unhappy kid. So send some healthy snacks as well. That's all Morah is saying.
