ARGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

We have had molluscum in my house for the past 6 years!!!! It's driving me insane. It all started 6 years ago when my (idiot) SIL stuck her kid in the bath with mine and when I asked her "What are those bumps on his back?" she said "It's molluscum, but don't worry, it's fine." Well, six years later, it is NOT fine!!!!!

First one son got it, then another, then the baby got it, than another child got it and couldn't get rid of it for over two years, and when it was finally going away, another child got it!!!! After five years of passing it around, I had really thought (hoped) that we were finally rid of it. A few months ago, I saw a small rash on my dd that didn't look anything like it, but then I just saw that one of my kids (who wasn't even born when this whole thing started) has it for sure!!!!

We had been to dermatologists, but they were either too aggressive and really hurt/burned my kids, or gave creams that didn't do anything at all. I don't let my kids who have had it take baths with any other kids, and no one in my house shares towels, but it's impossible to keep them off of each other all of the time!!!

This is just driving me insane! I don't know what to do anymore!! I can't stand it!!

I also had it going around for a long time. The dermatologist was going to prescribe oral anti-virals if it didn't go away.

The best treatment that the dermatologist agreed to, was popping them till they bled and then applying antibacterial ointment. Got rid of it pretty quickly bh.

Thanks, but I'm a little too far from Brooklyn to go to a Dr. there. Did you have your Dr. treat molluscum? What did they do for it.

Did it leave scars from that? Did your kids scream like crazy? Did you do it or your doctor?

That is so frustrating. One of my kids had it for a long time. It finally went away then another kid had it for a long time. It was gone I thought for good when it erupted again. But this time it was gone again in just 3 months instead of 9. I just keep an eye on them and when they look infected I put some mupirocin on for a few days. I believe you will eventually be rid of it. Hopefully very soon.

Yeah, it's gone around in our house. But our ped says your kids can pick it up from toilet seats. So beyond your intial case, your SIL may not be to blame.

We've had it for about 5 years (even I caught it, to my GP's surprise). Unless it's infected, I don't do anything.

I know how you feel. Two of my kids had it and they had eczema under it. I was embarressed to take them out in the summer they looked horrible. My kids always had infections on them. Thjey were constantly on antibiotic. I tried apple cider vinegar, homeopathic wart cream- some really expensive cream that the insurance doesnt cover and nothing worked. B"H after 2 years they went away.

The good dr scraped them off in about a second. He told me to put emla on 45 min before, & then they don't feel a thing when he scrapes them off. There's a tiny scab for a day or two then it's gone

Molluscum is a viral infection which causes warts on the body. It generally lasts about 2-3 years before the body fully fights it off. The warts come and go, starting out like small, raised skin colored bumps, then becoming red and swollen as they resolve. There is often an eczematous patch around the molluscum.

The best treatment for molluscum is--NOTHING.

If ignored, the papules will last for a while (days to months) and then go away on their own, usually with no scarring.

If you go to a dermatologist, they will either give you a cream to use or freeze or burn the warts. This is painful and traumatic for the child. In addition, it usually has to be done repeatedly as new warts appear until the virus has cleared from the body. In my experience, the molluscum which were treated scarred significantly more often than those which were ignored.

I know that the warts can "look ugly" and be itchy or sore (I know from personal experience--I got it from my kids!). However, it is not always necessary to DO something just because a condition exists. In this case, the best treatment is to sit back, do nothing, and wait. The wonderful immune system that Hashem bequeathed upon our children will take care of the problem on its own.

Some have tiny scars and most don't. I did it. The dermatologist showed me how, after the initial freezing of a few. Basically, I would pop it just like a white head. By the time my kids noticed, it was all don't. Lots of bleeding though, from a small spot that is. But make sure to put the bactroban on it. Very important so it doesn't get infected. And then, zehu! Gone. Boruchhashem!!!!

They're gross. My older daughter was embarrassed to go swimming, so the dr. froze off the ones that were obvious.

The younger kids hated the whole freezing thing, so I just chewed my nails and waited. When one went away, another one grew in its place. Until it sort of petered out on its own. Everyone gets separate showers every night and yes, every kid has their own hook for their own towel. It took about 2 years, but now everyone is molluscum free. Finally!!!!!

IME, the ones that were frozen off healed fine (although I agree it was hard on the kids). The ones that were left to swell and burst left scars.

2 of my 3 kids have had it. DD always has little pimples on her arms, so I thought that some of them had just gotten infected. But when it didn't go away for months I showed it to her ped and she said to leave it alone.

But 2 years later they were not only still there, but they had spread all over her arms and onto her trunk. The wierd part is she took baths every night with her brother and he nver caught them.

So I took her to a dermatologist, gave her some tylenol 30 minutes before and smeared her with Emla and she froze all of them off.

DD cried for a few seconds, but she was fine. B'H no scarring.

A whole year later, DS, who wasn't even born when DD had them, got a few on his back. They don't bathe together, they don't share towels, nothing like that... I took him to the dermatologist immediately before his 4 pimples turned into 400... And she froze them off too. Again, he barely cried and now every trace of them is gone.

The thing is that they spread. So I learned to deal with it fast when it's only 4 things to freeze off rather then 40.

I don't think you can catch it from a bathtub though...
