Thanks, cookielady. Smile

Next somebody is going to say that it's healthy to be exposed to many different germs, and anyway her kids share food and don't get sick often.

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! Wink
Well, this is certainly giving me a different perspective on germ sharing, specifically the comment about the germs kids pick up from school.

I think the fact that I let my kids share food and utensils is a combination of the fact that they are both still nursing (and if I wasn't going to let them share germs, I should probably wash myself with antibacterial soap between feedings- does anyone do that???) and also that I HATE wasting! If they don't eat it, I will finish it. I will only bring one cup for them to share. And... are they terribly sick? Well, not in my opinion; and anyway, if one is sick with a cold, they'd probably share it with the family just by sneezing and breathing all over each other...

How did you know? Razz

I wouldnt exactly say that its healthy to be exposed to many different germs, but you cant argue the fact that being exposed to some germs helps build up the immune system.

My little one (who is not in school) has constant ear infections and runny nose.
My older one is never sick k"ah.

All of us are carrying many different germs all the time. Not all of them do we get sick from because either our immune system fights it off or we've already become immune.
I just don't want to take chances.

Besides, kids can do gross things with the food on their plate. So, no thanks. I don't know about everyone else's kids but mine lost their table manners the day they entered school at age 3.

my kids do share bottles and sippy cups. I try to keep them separate but one kid puts it down and the other one takes it. I do not eat food that they touched, I do not trust where they put their hands. if I bake with them I make sure they wash and that they don't double dip or touch anything.

We don't share! I don't even share a drink/straw with my husband. We also wash hands with soap the second we walk into the house, every time after using the bathroom and before any snack/meal.

I don't worry about germs unless my kids are sick or getting over something. They play pretty rough, and I think they spend enough time literally on top of each other that sharing cups isn't going to affect the spread of germs much.
