My little sis is becoming bas mitzvah soon IYH and we are making a party for her class in a couple of weeks IYH. My mother is all out of ideas for projects that are affordable, fun, practical, and possibly chanukah themed? If not chanukah themed, its ok also, we're getting a bit desperate. What do girls do by bas mitzvah parties?

Do you mean craft projects? I know Chai Lifeline has some kind of program where the girls make one thing for themselves and another thing for a sick child.

what we did at my bat mitzva was got clear plastic frames, used puff paint and beads or puzzle pieces to decorate it (we even used the card board from my father's shirts to cut out mats for the frames.

when the girls got there we took pictures of them, someone left during the bat mitzva and went to a one hour photo place (this was a lot time ago) and each girl went home with their frames with a picture of either themselves or with me.

btw....another idea someone is doing in the near furutre is someone is coming in and teaching the girls how to make headbands, the ones that are in style with the big flowers, feathers or sequence pieces.

At dd's Bas Mitzvah, the girls all made flower baskets. I bought each girl a small basket. Inside, we put a styrofoam block. I bought tissue paper and piper cleaners so the girls could make flowers, plus tons of fake flowers. I had though the girls would make their own flowers, and then fill in with the ones I bought. Some girls made all tissue paper flowers, some just used the store-bought, some made a combination. Then I bought foam stickers and ribbon for them to decorate the baskets, plus brown paper "grass" to fill inside the basket around the flowers. They all came out really pretty! It was right before Shavuos, too, so it was very good timing!

If you want to do Chanukah themed you can buy large wooden dreidels and supplies for decorating.

I know how to make fancy shabbos headbands or fancy Anthropologie style flower necklaces ?
I have done workshops with teens and it's a hit each time.

I have worked a few bas mitzvasteaching girls how to bead. Bas mitzvah girl chooses a handful of coordinating beads (prices can vary greatly, according to what you want to spend), I ordered enough for the amount of girls x2. Each girl made 2 necklaces or a necklace and bracelet and we donated one per girl. It was fun, girls had a blast. Bas mitzvah girls have always chosen glass pearls (look real) with other colorful accents. The girls feel grown up making pearl necklaces and for other girls who aren't so into pearls, they did more colorful things. Basically can be whatever you want. Find someone in your area who beads and can be the organizer. She'll have to prepare lengths of beading wire with clasps ahead of time and finish them off when the girls are done. If you're interested, let me know and I can give you more info.

I was a bas mitzvah where a woman (in an outfit made entirely out of colored duct tape) made wallets out of duct tape with the girls. everyone enjoyed it immensely and came out with something nice and functional. the woman was cute, funny and nice. here's her web site:
