My DS is a very active, hyper little boy. He loves his baby sister. He is 3 going on 4, and she is going on 2. He is fascinated by her and loves to smother her, hug her, play with her bellybutton, for example. Pretty much there is nothing sacred for him not to touch.

I've been shocked sometimes and lashed out at him. I've told him, like a broken record, to leave his sister alone. I never leave him alone with her. She is learning to put up defenses but not having such an active little boy before I'm not sure if this is normal for him or not. Obviously my approach is not working or even making a dent.

Will he grow out of this? Anyone else with this experience and positive turn of events?

my opinion is you have a normal little boy on your hands. instead of yelling, I would distract him with something else. "oh look ds! let's play with some legos right now, you and mommy."

Have you considered evaluating your ds? He might have sensory issues (and that can sometimes be diagnosed as ADHD when they get older) which might explain the hyperactivity and the constant touching and smothering. Believe me, I know from experience. You should look out for other sensory signs, like eating habits, social interaction with other kids etc. etc. there is so much information available out there for you to google. THanks for the replies thus far. I feel a little better that I'm not hearing, "Watch out, he's a future deviant..." That was my worry.

Sensory issues...hmmm. I was thinking he may have autism although he doesn't mind loudness, he makes direct eye contact, and he doesn't mind affection. His pediatrician thinks otherwise.

He just has very prolonged and drastic meltdowns and has a language delay for which he got ST. He communicates much better now but his language is still behind.
