At my 11 year old's request, I just bought charcoal gray fitted stretchy skirts for her and her 9 year old sister to wear under silver Shabbos jumpers they starting growing out of. What a wardrobe saver! Now the whole outfit is not only longer, but the skirt material conforms when they sit, rather than the stiff jumper tiers poufing up.
It's in style now, so it looks fine. Once it goes out of style it will look very strange.
I wear a black Shabbos tunic over a black skirt, which simply has the overall appearance of a long black dress.
