didnt want to post under sheitels/tichels cuz cant post anon.
the reason I wana b anon is cuz I already posted this on FB so my friends all know I am looking for a way to do this- I dont want to out my SN.

anyway, I have an old fall that I got when I got married. it was custom, and cost 1,500. it never was right. the fit was totally wrong, the color was totally wrong, the texture was not what I wanted. It has sat in my dresser for over 2 years now. I want to donate it to something like Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society but they never answered my email. does anyone else have other ideas of who I can donate it to? I know I can sell it and get some $ for it, but honestly, I dont need the money, and I would want to do the mitzvah of helping someone in need!!!

Some communities have shaitel gemachs. Where are you located?

If you contact locks for love or the Pantene Pro V organization, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

Also is there a Hope and Cope in your area? They could probably help you too.

Contact Shear Elegance in Lakewood. The owner's name is Sara and she stopped doing regular shaitels for pple. She now does for cancer patients, etc. and quite possibly has pple that can use the tzedaka.

Wow! I was going to ask what color it was in case I was interested (looking to become comfortable with this mitzvah which I currently am not doing.. and thought if the financial burden was alleviated Id have one less excuse) but no way now that I see who you really want to give it to!

Is there no group on imamother for women going through cancer? Ask the mods to start one if there isnt bc Im sure there are frum women out there that would instantly, unfortunately, love that. Then post there.

Hi Everyone, its the OP here!
So CHAI LIFELINE WROTE ME BACK THAT THEY WANT MY WIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You dont even KNOW how elated I was. I ran to the UPS store and shipped it to them and for 9 dollars they will have it tomorrow. As much as zerizim makdimim lemitzvos...it was raining today and definitely did not feel like shlepping into manhattan and dealing with parking.
and for 4 dollars more than a train, it was worth shipping it.
Thanks for the suggestion of Chai lifeline! The person who answered me told me she doesn't have anyone right now (ie today) who needs it, but they get calls all the time, and the next girl r'l who needs it, will have a brand new brown wig!!!
I am SOOOO HAPPY!!
so anyway for anyone else who has any wigs they want to get rid of, keep chai lifeline in mind!!
thanks for ur help e/o!!!

I am sorry I wasn't able to help you!
but hatzlacha with starting to cover your hair!!
you should try going to a place like milano for example that sells less expensive ready to wear wigs, and try a fall instead of a full wig...it might be easier to adjust like that....with a fall its always easier to make it look more natural with a headband in the front...good luck!

Zichron Menachem in Israel
maybe Locks of Love? I know people who have cut off very long hair and donated it to them.

Thanks goldi- I thought of zichron menachem, but I figured the cost of the shipping would have been a pain- even for a small box (I shipped it to chai lifeline with the head), you are talking 50-60 dollars for UPS. I figured that if I couldnt find a/o in the US or Canada I would call them up.

and locks of love wont take wigs, only hair. I thought worst case scenario, I would cut off all the hair and do that. but I am glad I found s/o willing to take the already sewn together wig, because that would have been a waste of a good wig! (good for someone else, just not ever good for me!)

Dont be sorry! I can honestly say I was thrilled to see who you were looking to donate to. What a kiddush Hashem!

Unfortunately I seem to think the less expensive ones are the ones I would feel most akward in bc the texture and look seems fake. Maybe I just take the plunge to get one of those very natural ones and see how I grow into it...

A woman I worked with had this unbelievable sleek shaitel that looked so much like hair to me, closer than any other wig I'd ever seen. She told me the wig was a Ralph (?) she paid a fortune ($3000) for it to look that way otherwise she wouldn't be covering her hair at all.

OP here- if you are ready to "take the plunge" - then I can recommend some GORGEOUS places that make amazing wigs. not milano quality- and not "yaffa wig" quality (the quality of the fall I got and hated it which propelled me to just spend double for something I woulld love with impeccable perfect color).

one of my recommendations would be ralph like the poster above said- but beware he is hard to work with. but the end result is something you will never know is a wig.

can you post where u live?

Thanks so much! Incidentally I think a friend told me about Ralph too, based on your description. Is he in Manhattan? I am actually in LA. Anonymous bc this has been a very very hard issue for me. I would like to start with a kippah fall (yes I know the halachic issues involved but I can consult with my Rav)

I AM THE OP
omg!!
THE REASON I ASKED YOU TO POST YOUR LOCATION WAS TO SEE IF YOU ARE IN LA!!!
Ralph is in Manhattan.

before you fly out to ralph (he is a PAIN to deal with- my mother got a wig by him, thats how I know he is so good, but that was before she started getting wigs where I recommend below)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

check out http://www.pinybeverlyhills.com/home.html
this is where I got my wigs (and to all my friends on here- that, combined with my FB message about donating my wig- I totally just outed myself- so glad I am "amother!), after my disasterous Yaffa fall (the one I just donated)
you will pay about half of what you'd pay ralph. He is not cheap- not on the level of milano or any of those. but with Ralph, a full wig (lets say 14 inches) will run you around 5,000 and will take at least 2 or 3 months. With Pinny, it would be about 2800 (I think) and in- 2-3 weeks its done! He doesnt deal with the "frum" community, he deals with beverly hills fancy women who want a new hair style, movie stars, and such. He just made a wig (I think this was the one- I forgot) for Jennifer Lopez. He is on Olympic and Robertson, you have probably passed it a million times and never knew it was there- a total hole in the wall. He does cap falls, hair pieces, full wigs, headband falls, whatever.
please please check him out. I recommended ralph- but that was before I knew you were FROM LA!!!!!!!! OMG!!! please please please try him out! I would be SOOOO HAPPY IF TWO MITZVOS COULD COME OF THIS DAY!!! They are still open now. The girl at the front desk is Keren, she is Israeli and is so nice. see if you can come in for a consultation. I know he is going to Israel soon for a few weeks, but hopefully you can get in before Rosh Hashana and then you will have a custom wig (or cap or fall!) really soon!

Seriously? lol! Shocked I thought the whole LA thing would be a conversation stopper! Thank you sooo much. I have no idea if I can spend this kind of money now but Im hoping a cap fall (is that a kippah fall??) will be substantially less, no? He sounds just like what I need though (not to come off shallow).

You sound amazing.. thanks for the goodwill. I almost want to "out" myself so we can be friends .. hehe... You're very thoughtful, so consider your mitzvahs DONE.
