Question about rules for the game SORRY!

we have a question about the rules in the game SORRY! and it doesn't specify one way or another in the rules of the game.

If you went around the board with a piece and are a few spots away from your safety zone and you pick a card, say a "12" and it too high of a card to go to "HOME" so you can't go there (for example you are 8 spots away from your home) assuming you have no other pieces to move, do you have to move 12 spaces without going in your safety zone meaning you will be going around the board again? or do you just not move at all?

I always played that you just forfeit your turn if you don't have enough spots to move. never heard of going around the board a second time. game would take much too long that way

We play that you forfeit your turn too, but if you get an 11 you must switch places with an opponent. If you get a 7 and you have no other pieces then you also must forfeit your turn. If your in safety then you dont have to switch places if you get an 11 but if you get a 4 or 10 you still have to move back even if it means you leave safety

I think we play that you go till home and then go backwards the amount of spaces left.
I think.
Maybe I just made that up.
