Is it cheaper to buy airline tickets (from Israel to the US and back):
From the airline itself? or through a travel agent?

on line at times you can get great buys. need to spend time and compare all options, including 1-2 agents.
I end up buying from airlines sites.

I like checking kayak.com first and then comparing with the prices on the airline's site.

I don't really see much difference either way. Comp shop online and I go to airline sites in most cases.
Have you considered 1 stopover flights?

For us, a travel agent because the peso to the dollar nonsense, but that's another story in itself. It's kind of cool the way it works out. If anyone is interested what I'm talking about, you can pm me.

I have found that it is not predictable. I always try an agent or two, and on-line services (I like Orbitz) and directly through the airline. I monitor the prices for a while and buy the cheapest/most reasonable itinerary that I find.
This last time I purchased tickets through Orbitz. The agent did not even have these priced flights in his system.
