| |
We are in Brooklyn & my husband & I are hoping to go away for a few days at the end of August. We're looking for some ideas of where to go. We don't want to spend too much, but this is a rare opportunity for us to be able to get away so we really want to do something nice.
A big plus would be if there are kosher restaurants nearby.
Does anyone have ideas?
TIA!

| Are you looking for a hotel next to specific activities, or you are planning on relaxing? How far from Brooklyn would you travel?

We're willing to travel 4-5 hours from Brooklyn, (but I prefer less traveling time if we can find something nice closer by).
We'd definitely be interested in a hotel near activities. As far as the activities we are open minded. Some activities we like: jet skiing, hiking, anything nature related, fruit & veggie picking, zoos & aquariums, museums.

| I've heard that Vermont is supposed to be beautiful though not sure about kosher food. Perhaps you can google it for more info.

Thanks, munchkin! I appreciate your help.
I remember traveling to Montreal as a kid & it was lovely, but I definitely don't want to travel 6-7 hours.
Any other ideas?

I dont know anything about the area, but I'm sure NJ has nice places, and if you stick near lkwd or morristown, you'd have kosher food too.
glad to help!

| There are a lot of nice things to do in the Waterbury/Litchfield area, and Waterbury has minyanim and a pizza store, bagel store, and deli.

The Boston area fits the bill. The restaurants are mainly in Brookline, with a breakfast/lunch place downtown Boston. Hotels will be cheaper as you move further from the city - look at Waltham for example. Take the commuter rail or subway (T) into the city and use the car for the rest. Blue Hills reservation (south of Boston) has some nice hiking trails and vistas. I'd skip the zoo in Boston, but the aquarium is excellent. The location of fruit/veggie picking depends on when you come - Honey Pot orchards has apple picking. The Boston harbor cruises are fun - there are lots of choices. Great museums, both in the city and outside - look at the Isabella Stewart Gardner, the Peabody/Essex (Salem?) and the museums at Harvard University. Canoeing/kayaking is available on the Charles river, both near the Harvard stadium in Allston and the Marriott hotel in Newton (easy parking near both). There are probably water sports based near the ocean beaches and maybe some of the bigger lakes, but I'm not familiar with details.

Very short drive: Quassy Amusement park, Coco Key indoor water park, multiple fruit-picking farms (March Farms, Hickory Hill, Lyman Orchards), lovely state parks (Black Rock, Mount Tom) with boating, kayaking, swimming (lake).
Longer drive: Bridgeport Beardsly zoo, Litchfield town museums, Bantam Lake, SportsCenter in Shelton, New Britain Rock Cats minor league baseball, Norwalk Aquarium, a lot of different museums.
Tip: Check out the www.ctvisit.com website. Lot of suggestions of more things to do and places to stay in all areas.
