| has anyone tried freezing their own strawberries? I cut the tops off & washed them well. If I put them in a ziploc & freeze them, will they be good? will they stick to each other? will they turn brown?

| Sure you can. I think the best way to avoid them sticking together would be to first freeze them on a baking sheet, then transfer to ziploc bag once frozen.

| Of course you can. Freeze them on a cookie sheet in a single layer, and then put them into a container or Ziplock bag.

anything prepackaged with hechsharim is expensive...
They make great "ices" by the way... very slightly defrosted, yum!

It says here
http://star-k.org/cons-vegdetail.php?ID=48
that frozen strawberries (without a hechsher) may be used, preferably, pureed. That is perfect because my first comment was going to be that frozen strawberries are good when used in smoothies or fruit soup, but they don't have such a good texture if you just defrost them. They get mushy.
So if you go by the Star-K, then no need to pay $ for bodek.

I freeze washed strawberries ALL the time (for smoothies). You don't have to dry them very well, the extra water will just freeze with the strawberries (which I don't care about b/c I make smoothies w/ them anyhow). Why the "Bodek" strawberries are so expensive, I have no clue. More profit, I guess? If you don't want them all to be a strawberry ice block, you need to flash freeze them first (lay out on a cookie sheet in a single layer and freeze them) and then you can transfer them to a ziplock bag without having them stick together. _________________ Abstract Art: A product of the untalented, sold by the unprincipled to the utterly bewildered.
