I'm nursing exclusively, and we found 4-6 dirty diapers a day until at 4 weeks our daughter went a day without a dirty diaper, and in the five days since has had maybe had two or three. The pediatrician says unless she goes a full week w/o one not to worry, but it seems like a big jump to me, although they are wet at almost every change. We went through a mild bout of thrush and started medication just before all this, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related (or as I said, that it's an issue at all). Anyone else see this before?
thanks

| 4 breastfed babies and the same story with everyone. It usually changed between 4 and 6 weeks with a significant reduction in bowel movements. one baby only made once a week and it was so big that it would get everywhere!

Yes, my kids did this. And "the books" say it's normal and should be expected.
I know, I doubt my pediatrician on stuff like this as well! I actually gave one of my babies a baby laxative without asking the ped - not a good idea.
If your baby was constipated (rare with exclusively breastfed babies), you'd probably know from the way she was acting.

we had that at about two months. she went 5 consecutive days without going, and then she finally went. warm baths seem to help. its been a few months, and since then she goes up to 3x a day and as infrequently as twice a week.
dont worry- especially if the doctor tells you not to!

phew! thanks everyone!!!!! what a relief...I know I should listen to the dr, but this is why my husband always jokes about my "medical degree" (which I have nothing close to) when I second guess what the drs say. a bath did work another time so we'll work on that more often.
thanks again!!

| My Dr told me, when I was nursing exclusively, that nursing babies can have 10 dirty diapers a day or go 10 days without one (I never had it last that long) so don't worry.

Totally normal, and also I found sometimes if *I* wasn't taking in enough grain/fiber then my babies would tend to get constipated also! And yes, these are when they were exclusively breastfed. _________________ Life is not about who you can stand on top of, but who you can lift up!
