Not sure that this is the right forum, but...
Does anyone know what the WIC nutritional eligibility requirements are? I live in NYC, married, expecting, meet the income guidelines for a family of 3, but am puzzled by the nutritional guidelines. Do you have to prove that you're sick or eat unhealthy food? How does that work?
And does anyone know of a "good" WIC office in Flatbush?
Thanks.

As far as I know, Wic is given for pregnant women and kids till the age of 5 (I think). I never heard of it having to do with good or bad nutrition _________________ “A child is a strange creature that wants to find out everything by asking questions nobody can answer.”

| As far as I know, it's just based on income. I had to prove income but was never asked any questions about my health or nutrition. Make sure they know you keep kosher though - so they will give you "specialty cheese" or something like that which is cholov yisroel.

| If you meet the income guidelines, that's all you need (as long as you can prove it).

Actually, you have to have a nutritional risk to qualify, on top of the income guidelines. Generally they use those forms you fill out to make up a qualification. Being under or overweight qualifies, low iron qualifies (hence the blood tests they do or ask you to bring results from), not eating enough vegis qualifies, allergies qualify, etc. _________________ Liba, mommy to Zlata Tova 5/6/98, Tziporah Faiga 1/12/01, Esther Rivka 7/13/04 and Avraham Chaim 7/2/2006

It depends on the particular state. Each state makes some of it's own policies for administering WIC in that state. In mine, even if an applicant has no nutritional risk factors, they are able to put in a general reason for qualification. The one they told me that they use is "nutritional guidance", meaning that they accept people in the program to simply to be able to give advice on healthy food choices, even if the external factors do not point to any problems in the family's diet. Other states do not allow general reasons, and they workers must come up with a nutritional risk if an applicant is to be accepted. Even in those states, they usually come up with whatever they can to accept people, even if it is not an issue that is really concerning. _________________ Binah
