Is that you're husband's precinct? Not that it makes it any better if its not. Thank goodness he was wearing a vest, and praying for a complete recovery.

Updated, 2:26 p.m. | A police officer was shot in the groin or thigh and in the bullet-proof vest in a housing-project apartment in the South Bronx around 12:30 p.m. Monday, law enforcement officials said. He was undergoing surgery and expected to survive.

There were conflicting reports about the fate of the man who shot the officer.

The uniformed officer, from the 44th precinct, was one of four who went to the apartment at 3073 Park Avenue in the Morrisania Air Rights houses after a home health aide called 911 to say that there was a dispute in the apartment involving a man with a gun, a law enforcement official said. At one point, the man with the gun was barricaded in the apartment, the official said.

The officer, whose name was not released, is being treated at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.

Mommy, can I ask a bit of a personal question. Did you know your dh was a cop or planning to become a cop when you got married? Because I would be so scared of the danger he faces day in and day out. Kol Hakovod (even if it was a decision made after marriage).

Honestly I had no idea. We had been married for over 5 years before he let me know that it was his dream to be a cop and he was so excited when he was assigned to that precinct. It's very scary. I support him 100% but I do worry.

I am so sorry!
My friends daughter joined the US Army as a field medic and she is currently stationed in the South Bronx--they say it is as close to simulated battle field as being IN an ACTUAL war!

Wishing a speedy recovery!

My dh called. The officer who was shot is his regular partner on Fridays. He works with members of the military who have said the south Bronx is more dangerous the Iraq or Afghanistan.

Thank you for your kind words.
