| |
Hi Ladies,
My due date was erev pesach. Now I will need a c-section the Weds before (the 24th). I also know that my dd was early, so perhaps I will go in even earlier (and undo all the planning for "help" I have acquired)
I have located some cleaning help to flip the kitchen, clean, but there are of course no guarantees. We've received kind invites to eat out for seders, but if I just had surgery, I'm not going anywhere. We might just be DH, DD, me and a baby at home, which is ok.
For those who had a pesach baby (or where you're so pregnant you're not your 'regular' self in terms of doing things, being able to lift, clean, reach) - what are your tips? Even if I get home by Fri/Sat before Pesach I will not be able to do much.
What did you do to simplify, get it done?
Also, any tips if I end up having a Pesach bris (chol hamoed or otherwise?) If it's Pesach I'll have to have the bris at home since I can't hobble 1/2 mile to the shul. If it's chol hamoed I'll do it in a shul so I don't worry about cleaning (beyond pesach cleaning, I mean cleaning for guests). DH suggested we do a kiddush after pesach, and have simple food for Bris if this is the case. _________________ "It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you usually get it." - W. the mother doesn't have to attend the bris but probably wants to.
I had a pesach bris. We had it in our house and the whole shul trekked over. It was kinda nice, kinda messy. We got tons of pesach cakes etc. which went straight into the garbage after (it was the last day of pesach). It's not the end of the world and if it's a chol hamoed bris it's much easier. having made a few brissim I can say it was our cheapest since you don't need a hall or a meal (for a yom tov bris). Even a chol hamoed bris will have less people to serve since many are away.
As for having a baby on pesach - did that too. First night mid sedar. I found it quiet, once we went home and everyone came for the second days to be by the bris it was quite loud . it's definitely an experience you remember forever. My son tells the story to his friends - even though he obviously doesn't remember it himself He thinks it's really cool that he was born in the middle of the sedar and we finished it after he was born in the hospital.

She has no idea how she is going to feel. There are a lot of things I want that I don't get.

Man may plan and G-d laughs. But I am a woman. ...
This woman tries to have a decision tree (if-then) so she is more unflappable when Hashem throws curveballs. Then we both laugh as I pretend to be an easygoing eishet chayil who is really a type a worry wart. Can you believe I have mellowed in 7 yrs marriage?
I do want to go to the bris! I don't think I can trek out with stitches and the 4 year old. If it's Pesach and not Chol Hamoed it will be in the house. I think if I have some shmura matzah and a couple boxes of extra reg. matza and some spread of some kinds (cream cheese/salmon if am, or chopped liver/ veggie chopped liver if pm) with some added pre-packaged cakes plus juice and hot water urn with coffee/tee choices that is respectable and provides the minimum requirements hopefully.
If it is Chol Hamoed, the same, only held perhaps in the shul basement so I don't have to clean up the house...The local wholesale club has a big thing o'macaroons that I will have DH pick up after the baby is born that can be trayed.
And I am ordering some kosher for pesach liquors for l'chaim and a possible shalom zachor.
Thanks Ladies!

It's also a matter of logistics. Most babies want to eat right after a bris. If she is nursing, there will be a problem. Taking a newborn who is in pain, out for a 1/2 mile trek in the cold, is not good planning. Besides most yom tov/shabbos brissim are in the house.

Could you flip your kitchen before the csection? Then your husband and child could eat in another room which could be cleaned last minute. It is more important that the kitchen is pesachdik then the rest of the house. Your probobly don't have much koach in the 9th month so sell as much as possible and clean the minimum.
Reharding a yomtov bris you could always make a really small bris of 10 men in your house and then have the sueda somewhere else and invite more people and you could stay home and sleep. We had a Yomtov bris and that is what we did. Or you could do the same in a neighbours house.

Yes, this was my first thought. So that's one less worry. _________________ "The problem begins with... their political hangers oners... such as Anat Hoffman. She is a davener like I am a chinese belly dancer." (FS)
