What kind of jobs can you get with a math degree?

I've seen the lists that google turns up, I'm interested in hearing from women who have a math degree/ know people who have a math degree and have put it to use (a couple people in my family have degrees in math, but they're working in totally unrelated fields so not so helpful).

I have a frum friend who is getting a maths maitrise (4 yrs).

My dh tells me there was a frum female maths teacher in the local public high school. She wore a beret to work.

I think a good number of rabbanim (modern to charedi) have a maths degree, but they are men.

It's a very sought-after degree in the financial services, hedge funds, investment banking, insurers you name it. They are mostly hired as quantitative analysts (aka "quants") who build models to price and evaluate complex financial products, or as bond traders.

I know one, she is a consultant. She's not particularly fond of her job, though.

What kind of job is actuary work or "quant" work? Is there anything normal (ie 9-5), or is it all crazy pressured jobs with long hours?

I have some relatives who are math majors.
One is an actuary.
One is a statistician.
One is a math teacher.

I do. I went to law school and to grad school in math and took actuarial exams. I worked as a corporate attorney in insurance regulation for a large insurer for several years, then switched to a senior business role in charge of a 7 state region for the company. I love it!

I'm a math teacher.

Other friends of mine with math degrees went to law school, are actuaries, are in grad school (looking eventually to get a PHD and professorship,) and I know one aerospace engineer (a guy, who is actually going back now for an education degree so he can teach math.)

I can't PM the anonymous amothers so I'll post it here. My husband has been looking for an actuarial job for 2 years with no luck. Sad If any of you know people who are actuaries, would you mind putting my husband in contact with them so that maybe they can help him out. Thank you so much!

She works pretty typical hours 8 - 5. But also has to study for her tests (the company she is with pays her for some of her study time).

She now works from home a few days a week.

I always loved math and considered getting a degree in math but decided to go for engineering instead.

Engineers generally have 9-5 type jobs.

I work for Con Ed. DH also has a "9-5" and he works for a defense contractor.

Sure there are engineering jobs that aren't like that, bu you can usually avoid them.

Depends - I have a software engineering job. And the hours are never, ever 9 - 5. Maybe 8 - 5. And then lots of overtime for deadlines.
(b'h I work from home now and am not so stressed with deadlines)

Quants job in the finance won't be straight 9-5, but not that terrible, I'd say 8-6. Usually requires C++ proficiency and familiarity with algorithm.
