My kids love parsha and I'm looking for something new. What is out there that is good? I'm looking for something other than Little Midrash says.

Well, I see this wasn't the most popular topic of the day. Anyone? I'm sure people get their kids parsha books around here.

B'h
My issues with a lot of these Parsha books (call me shallow for this )are their illustrations. Looking at some of them, if I were a kid would be positivley frightened and is not at all inspiring.
So now for my class I have resorted to creating my own Confused

I have a few of them, and while they look nice they really are not about the parsha. I don't have bereshit or shemot (which are likely better and more accurate), but have vayikrah and bamidbar. The real issue I have with the books is that it presents a completely fake story as the parsha, some of the stories, don't even have a parsha concept in them.

There is one Parasha that tells the story of R' Elazar ben Horkenus. It has NOTHING to do with the parsha, except that they threw a parsha heading onto it.

I would never Have spent the 40 dollars that these books cost, but my MIL bought it for the kids. The kids like them, but in no way are the learning parsha from them.

We have "parshat hashavua leyaldei Yisrael" which is by the same author, but aimed at slightly older children. My kids love it - I think it is translated into English too.

Also the Feldheim series plus tapes is really great, though they seem to be taking forever to bring out the whole series. Looks like only our grandchildren iyH will have the whole series. I only have the Hebrew, so I haven't seen whether the English translation is good.

My sons enjoy the Parsha Reader (is that what it's called?)
Basic summary of the parsha with pictures and a few questions at the end.

We have my first parsha reader. I has a few pages on each parsha, then a few questions for your child to answer. Really good.

(I know nothing abt the web site or the company. Its just the first one that came up when I goggled the books)

(Yeah, that's the set we have. My kids enjoy looking at it themselves as well and talking about parshiyos they remember...)

We have something from Feldheim that is just on Bereishis with tapes and they are excellent! It's called Let's Learn Parashas Hashavuah. It seems like they don't make them anymore. Is that what you are talking about?

If not can you give me a link to what you are talking about - please? I am very interested.

We have some of the Parasha Readers. My kids like them, but I find them very basic and limited. We need something more in depth.

I don't know. It's a green and red cover, and there is a tape reading the texts and with great songs. In Hebrew they recently brought out Bamidbar 2, after years with only Bereishis 1,2, Shmos 1,2 and Bamidbar 1.

It sounds like what we have. My kids love, love, love these! I can't say that enough. We have the Bereishis 1 and 2, but when I went to replace our tape 2 (for the 2nd time!) they were not available at Feldheim anymore. They never came out with anymore in English. I wonder if I should get them the Hebrew ones, it might help with their language skills.

Could you tell me where to buy them in Israel? My father is in Yerushalayim for the week, and I would ask him to get them for my kids.

Thanks!

Has anyone seen these?
http://torat-imecha.com/

Just came across it today. The samples are cute; I thought they might be appropriate both for my 2 and 4-year-old, and also for the Shabbos circle time I lead.

I have been using My First Parsha Reader for about 12 years, but don't love it. The text needs a lot of "reworking" to make it useable, important narratives are missing (I forget which now, but during Bereishis, I always had to add a lot) and I agree that some of the illustrations are inappropriate or scary.

The next ones in that series, The Little Midrash Says, is a bit better, but it's not pshat-based and doesn't differentiate between sources.

Interesting thread... I'll be following it, thanks!
