I want to buy a panini maker for dh for his birthday. We borrowed one once when we went on vacation, and he LOVED the results. (Maybe it's a present for me, since I can make easy, healthy dinners on it?)
Anyone have one? What's your opinion on it? I'm thinking about buying this one:

since it's only 50 dollars. I don't need it to convert into five different things, nor do I need it to grill meats well (as this will be milchik). I was really hoping to find one that was cheaper, but I don't want it to break on me after a few months. I think I don't want the one that can only hold regular pieces of bread (the one that makes squares cut on the diagonal), so that I can also use it with old challah, or large pieces of rye bread, or whatever. But I'm not sure about this, so if you have one of these that you like, can you post about it too?
No idea how to research these things...?

| The one you are looking at has non removable plates. I don't know if there are any panini makers with removable plates. I do know that I had a waffle iron and it was impossible to get clean with non removable plates. Now I have a new one, the plates come out and I can get them nice and clean.

I've never seen panini makers with removable plates.
You're gonna love it. Paninis are fabulous.

So I take it you make paninis? Which kind of panini maker to you have? (And what do you make in it?)
Cookielady- thanks for the advice. I'll look into that, as I have a Foreman that's hard to clean, without the removable plates. I never even thought of that.

I bought ours on Amazon that came with three sets of removable plates - for waffles, for sandwiches, and for grilling.
The kids say "it doesn't taste the same" and refuse to use it, maybe OP would like it ....

Wait, CM, I don't understand. Why would I like it? Why don't they? Does it have to do with the removable plates? It doesn't taste the same as what?
Also, what brand did you get? How well is it holding up? And do you know around how much it cost?
Really want to buy this soon...but I want to make sure I'm buying something decent.

Can you tell me what brand/model it is? And WHY they think it's a wannabe? I'm specifically interested in how it does sandwiches, not meats or anything.

What's the difference between a Foreman and a panini maker?
We have a regular sandwich maker, and it really is a PITA to clean, esp with melted cheese oozing into crevices. We also have a Foreman with removable plates (used for meat), that cleans like a dream. My dad has the Foreman without the removable plates, used for everything (he doesn't keep kosher) and claims its also easy to clean.

Fine, don't answer me. No need to be nice to me if you've decided that amothers are useless. Tell me - why does it bother you that I'm amother? There have been some very nice posters here who are happy to help out a fellow Yid without having any idea who I am.
I'm amother because I've been talking around to friends as well as online for ideas about this. Although I'm sure you think I'm illogical for feeling this way, I like to keep my imamother name private. I do not insult people needlessly under amother, which to the best of my knowledge, is the one requirement to using amother on this site. Please let me know if I've missed a clause in the imamother agreement somewhere.

I actually have this question as well. Foremans seem to be much cheaper than panini makers. Why would you choose a panini maker over a Foreman? (We already have a Foreman, but would obviously need another one to make paninis, as the one we have is fleishig.)
