My kids want to pool their money together to buy a Wii.
Normally we don't encourage our kids to buy the latest expensive fads but I was told that the wii if you get the right programs can be a great form of excersise and you can also get a gym version of it.
If that's the case then I'm happy to help the kids with adding my own money to it and helping them buy it.

Anyone's kids have one and what's your experience with them?
Can you recomend what sort to get? We don't really know much about it, what part are we supposed to buy?
We want the active ones.
Ages ranging from 8 to teenage. (also younger but too young at the moment to be a part of it)

I think you are talking about the Wii fit. We have a wii but not the fit though I would love to get it. The wii fit is about $100 I believe the system itself was just reduced to $199. We have some great games - a good kosher game is mario kart. You can race against eachother or yourself and it lots of fun. I also saw a wii personal trainer game advertised recently. Hope this helps!

There is this sports game that the kids really love, it has golf, tennis, baseball etc. It's cool because you actually "hit" the ball like you need to do the actual strokes.

The Wii is a lot of fun. Nintendo is a pretty family-friendly company. Make sure you read reviews of any games to make sure there is no content you'd find objectionable. The Wii Sports game that comes with the console is tons of fun!

There are many "kosher" games, particularly the sports package, as someone talked about. I love the boxing game, since yes, it's quite a good workout. I'd love to get the WiiFit package, but it's too pricey right now.

By the way, my younger kids have played it too. There are games that are good for younger than 8, like some of the sports - they might not be so great at it, but they love getting a turn, and we also just bought a carnival game that has, as described, carnival games. Some are a bit hard for real little ones, but they like them, too.

Can someone please tell me exactly what I'm supposed to buy besides the programs themselves?
When we look at it in the stores there are all these different parts and types and we don't know what's what
consider me dumb and tell it to me like I'm slow please Mr. Green

TIA

Our dd is 21 months and she doesn't play wii, but we do. Smile

Just go to any video game store, most of the nerds who work there are extremely helpful, and explain that you just want the console and wii fit. Wii fit comes with a "balance board," so don't be surprised if it's a big package. You should also buy more controllers, as the console only comes with 1. I think you can have up to 4 players at a time, so buy any number that suits your family.

I highly recommend you have WIRELESS INTERNET set up in your home so the wii can access the internet. It can download system updates, but also you can view news and weather, and your kids can play mario cart against players in guatemala. (You have no interaction with other players except for basic play and other basic things. it's NOT the "internet" at all. It's really quite Kosher.)

But you can still play without the wireless.

We second the recommendation for Mario Cart. Mario Party is also fun and Kosher. Wii Play has tons of cute mini games, also kosher, and in case going to sleep at 2am is too early for you, buy Brain Age Academy (another poster recommended) which is also tons of kosher fun. Indeed, Nintendo is very family friendly.

Interesting note: Since the birthrate in Japan is steadily declining, Nintendo has designed and marketed their Wii to appeal to an OLDER target market - so it's very user friendly for non-technical people. You and your kids will enjoy it. Have fun!

So here's your shopping list:
Wii Game Console
2, 3, or 4 extra Wii controllers (you decide how many will be playing Wii at a time)
Wii Fit

And ask Dh if he can set up your wireless internet, if you don't already have it.

Dh says the wii is about $200, and each controller is about $20. Wii Fit is about $100. Dh is just guessing. You should check bestbuy.com or something, they probably have all of this.

Wii Play is a game that comes with a controller which may save you money.

Oh, we also suggest you get nunchucks too, at least 2 pairs. You don't have to get them right away, but you may want them eventually. They enhance game play for some plays.
