בס"ד

IY"H assuming everything works out with my husband's new job we will be relocating to S. Florida. The question is where should we move to? We're lubavitchers looking for a younger anash community but at the same time it doesn't have to be a major anash community - as we'd like to find some kind of shlichus for ourselves. By trade my husband is in business and I'm a teacher so our options are open. Also it would be nice if there were regular shiurim and farbrengens for women. We were here for yud tes kislev and I couldn't find a single womens farby which was very disappointing. Maybe that's my shlichus.... Wink

One of the problems we seem to be running into are the homes here. The options for a home that's nice inside and out, not run down or built within the last 10-15 yrs are very limited. Since my husband is in the world of finance and real estate he knows the ins and outs of homes and knows that when you buy a home you buy it's baggage.

It's one thing to buy an older home but it's another thing to make a serious investment and then have to spend thousands of dollars fixing it up. On the other hand we don't want to have to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a home that in most other places would be cheaper for something simliar.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated! In addition we have little kiddies who will go into some kind of gan IY"H by the summer/next school year.

Thank you in advance!!

Maybe you can try central fla. instead. The housing market is more afforable. Look into Chabad of Greater Daytona. (Ormond Beach area) Kosher milchig and fleishig restarant and grocery. Beautiful Shul with men's and ladies mikvahs and Day School. The name of the Shul and school is Esformes Jewish Communuty Center . Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, Fla. Rabbi Pinchas and Chani Ezagui. Tell them Chaya Nesha recommended the community. I know you will love it there. (We do!)

new housing isn't necessarily all that ... my sister bought a brand new house and had many problems as the building materials and fashions are not what they used to be ... so don't let that effect you - look at the specific property ...

check out weston, hollywood, and nearby areas ...

That. My parents bought a brand new house and it had problems after problems for TEN years. I'm living in a 17 yr old building and we had much smaller problems.

17 years is still fairly new ... try more like 50 years old where people cared about the quality of wood and workmanship ... now not so much ...

I agree 100% new housing doesn't guarantee anything, but housing that's older than 20+ years definitely can be a cause for concern....

Look into Lauderhill area, we have a great Chabad House, lots of new couples, a preschool, a sisterhood, a chevra kadisha, it's really beautifull!
I love here!
If you need more info, don't hesitate to ask or pm.
Good luck!

Lauderhill is up and coming and CHEAP. Inverarry also has a growing young couples community, but it's more established than Lauderhill. There's a preschool there, it's close to Coral Springs where the Hebrew Academy (Lubavitch) is, and not too far from Miami where the day school is.

What's the difference between Lauderhill and Inverrary?? We went to Chabad of Inverrary and the Rebbetzin couldn't have been nicer. She showed us both the shul and the school and it seems to be thriving B'H.
On the flip side, the housing seemed incredibly run down...
Any thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated.......
Still looking....

Coral Springs is great, they have 2 chabad shuls and a huge school. We drive over an hr to send our son. Hollywood is nice and near the beach. Aventura is a "fancier" community if thats what you like. Most people live in high rise condos due to the higher cost of living.

How about Plantation? Its close to Hollywood, but I think a bit more affordable. I'm not Chabad, but I have a Chabad friend there who is very into the rabbi

The Shul of Bal Harbour has all of that! Women's ferbrengens, kollel, 9 minyans a day, as well as sephardic minyans, sisterhood, 12 women's classes a week, a dozen or so for men, women's and men's mikvah, a gan and montessori pre-school, just to name a few... This year 9young couples moved down from Crown Heights because they were looking for the exact same thing you are.
Housing is problematic, but with times being what they are, lots of people are desperate to sell and you might get something decent.

I've also looked into inverray. its a very nice communinty. it is old but there are a lot of young couples moving in. they have a great group of wives that get together all the time. preschools and schools in easy comute. dh wants to move there as soon as a position opens for him. my concern is actually with the health care system esp with ob/gyns in florida as a whole so that is one thing that is holding me back

I am already living in S. FL but very far removed from everything, which is no longer okay since our kids will start school soon. We are also Lubavitch, looking for similar things as you, and everyone keeps saying Coral Springs is the place to be. Affordable housing, good schools, lots going on in the community, etc. Much more of a vibrant community then Hollywood or Plantation from what I hear, though I do know people from each of those locations who are quite happy as well. Bal Harbour is also another option. Huge community and though housing is expensive, I know a couple who moved there recently and I went into shock when I heard how little rent they are paying for a nice sized, updated 3 bedroom townhouse. If you are willing to rent instead of buy, seems there are many units people are desperate to rent out for a fraction of what they might have gotten 2 yrs ago. There is so much going on in this community, but personally I have no interest in apartment or townhouse living; I need a yard for my kids and not to have my neighbors right on top of me. But for someone who doesn't mind this, it really is a great community.
