More seriously, is there any reason why someone would want to be rid of these five people? Or are you thinking just one, and the others were in the wrong place at the wrong time? |
Ye.
The difference between conspiracy and truth is about 5 days.
Most of the time we dont find out the truth.
Often news is here to distract or shut down a different story.
I wouldn't be surprised by anything nowadays.

A happier conspiracy theory that I heard is that these people wanted to fake their own deaths (no reason why was given), and they never even went down there. They wouldn't have been able to take billions with them, but it wouldn't be hard for a billionaire to be able to stash away a few million and start his life over somewhere.

I also can't fathom someone who wants thrills for the seek of thrills. I do like new experiences but for me that is more like visiting a new city or reading an interesting new book or equivalent. I have never had the slightest desire to sky dive or to rappel down a mountain or climb Mount Everest.

I heard an interview this morning with someone who went on one of the first Titan trips, possibly the first, seeing nothing like what later trips saw. When he was asked what he thought when he read the waiver (which mentions death 3 times on the first page) he said, my wife will kill me but I didn't read the waiver.
Everest fascinates me. Not enough to read grownup stuff like the Krakauer book but I read the Gordon Korman trilogy and took my kids to an IMAX. I cannot get in the mindset of people who do this.
But they do. And I'm sure that families of people who died on Everest might feel bitter at times but know that this was how their loved one lived his life and that they might not have been able to do it any other way. (Well, maybe that's not true. Bechira, etc. But trying to put myself in their shoes, I think I'd find some comfort and closure in that. And maybe that's what we need to offer the families, in whatever energy we can send their way.)

I heard they lost contact fairly early on.

I could never be a tightrope walker either.
I don't know if this is the time to start analyzing, though I doubt any Titan families will be reading this. I will say that this is reminding me of something I've heard Rabbi Tatz say, that our desire for adventure and travel is a metaphor for our deep desire to embark on life's greatest adventure: the journey of our soul in this world. (Or something like that.)
If we see these risk-taking tendencies in our loved ones, there might well be some voids that need filling.
ETA: Risk taking per se isn't bad. We need visionaries.

So we need these types of innovative minds, not adhering to all the safety regulations is another story. |
I'm reading through the thread and commenting. I see Mollie got here first on p. 3. Baruch shekivanti.

Thankful that as a Frum Jew it is forbidden for us to risk our lives for thrills.
When your life has no meaning, people seek out

BH. These poor wives. I'd be terrified if my dh wanted to do such a thing. I'd do everything in my power to stop him. So sad!

Okay so the earth is flat? The moon landing was faked? The Jews are responsible for 9/11? Not all conspiracies are true.

Often, people turn to conspiracies when the Occam's Razor is just too painful.

Some of those ridiculous conspiracies were started by those who conspire to discredit those who are exposing them.
Throughout nearly 6000 years of history the super wealthy have conspired to increase their wealth and power.
There was no such thing as a huge middle class until quite recently,
and now middle class us being crushed and we are rapidly losing all our freedoms,
while the super wealthy are just getting richer and more powerful.
Freedom and middle class prosperity are the EXCEPTION in history of world and is being reversed.
History repeats itself

So apparently the navy has protocol that if someone goes missing underwater, they bang on the vessel a certain way every thirty minutes. The navy tells other instruments/vessels in the area to go quiet around those times to hear the noise better, and this way they know that the noises aren't an accident.
I've heard there were two people aboard the vessel who would have been familiar with that protocol so they did believe it was them.
Obviously, what difference that makes at this point is uncertain.

Too painful or too irrelevant to their lives? Conspiracy theorists love hijacking tragedies or even positive events to make it about themselves and their areas of interest.

No.
Biggest income disparity is under socialism and communism.
Freedom and capitalism created the middle class
Which did not exist in olden days.

JUST IN | A "debris field" has been discovered within the search area for the missing submersible Titan by a remotely-operated vehicle near the wreckage of the Titanic, the US Coast Guard said.
Seems like they died instantly, which would be best case scenario at this point.
