| I stay home when child is sick. They are my first priority but this is only possible cuz I have very lenient hours at work and can do some work from home too.

| hmm. I don't know. I'm a SAHM myself, so I can't say I have experience with days off. if you find a local PA, perhaps you can bring the kid after your working hours. did you call your pediatrician? sometimes the child doesn't need to be seen. if the child does need to go, can you get a babysitter to take him/her to the doctor? it may not be the best solution, but it's doable.

Then you make your appointment in those 2-3 hours.
With my job I sometimes walk in 15 minutes before shabbos starts. It's not an ideal situation for most people, but you do what you have to.
make sure everything is prepared tonight so you can take your kid tomorrow and not stress out if you come home in the last minute.
if you really can't do this, and your kid is considerably sick, then go to the emergency room. if it's just a cold, let it go.

| Thank you for your replies. DD was complaining a little today that her ear hurts. The babysitter cannot take her and I dont think my ped would have hours so late.

you should call and find out! if he doesnt, ask him to refer you to someone who does. most pediatiricans offices (The larger ones, not when its a single guy in practice) have a late night or a couple late nights, to accommodate working parents. If he doesnt, honestly, you might want to think about switching doctors. When choosing both an OB and a Pediatrician, this was something that was of primary importance to me. I dont mean to make your life harder and more complicated, but it is definitely something to look into.
she may have an ear infection, she may not. You should call either way. depending on what you say and what the pediatrician asks, he might just be able to help you over the phone. good luck.

Depending on where you work, you should be entitled to time off for a sick child. I believe it's national law that employers have to give family medical leave - which is to say that you can take time off, but not necessarily paid time off. If you do have sick time as a benefit, you are entitled to use part of that for family members.
I have a fairly flexible job, where I can take an hour or two off and make it up later, so maybe that's an option for you, too.
Even though it might be difficult with scheduling, plus losing any paid time you need to take, I personally think it's important not to let things go too long. An earache can get worse over time if it's truly infected.
Refuah shelayma to your child!
