while doing my own research as to the way to check fruits/veges for bugs, I have come across pics of the bugs and after seeing an infested cauliflower head last week (it was really gross!!) I am not sure I even want to eat these veggies anymore. Not the mention the Torah issurim of eating a bug. Our rabbonim of the local kashrus commission go by the star-K standards. They have very informative and step-by-step instructions on how to check things. check it out: www.star-k.org

I have the books on checking (5 different ones) and here in my city they have tonnes of shiurim where they pass the bugs around still alive!! quite gross but very practical because they are in a microscope sort of theing that if you look on one side you see what they look like on your lettuce and the other side is magnifyied so you see their legs and everything!! Super gross. I guess my concern is there are certain things that we don't eat and don't even try to check like broccoli and raspberries abut until now I have always checked celery without a problem. Until my rav says otherwise (which I hope he doesn't I plan to continue this way! )
