description: This is very easy to make, you just
need a cockpot.

ingredients: 1 pound mushrooms, sliced
2 carrots, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 parsnip, chopped (optional)
1-3/4 cups barley
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 cup red wine
2 teaspoons dill
1-teaspoon black pepper
1-teaspoon salt

directions: Place all ingredients in crock-pot.
Add water until pot is full. Cook

servings: 5

It was really good. I put it up for Shabbos cause we had a vegitarian coming for dinner.

Sounds good. I make a similar one, but I don't put in carrots and cellery. Also, I cook it on the stove. I follow the one from the Spice and Spirit. Does anyone make a creamy mushroom barley soup? My husband likes mine, but we want to experiment and try a creamy one.

I kind of just put in whatever amounts I want, this recipe isn't from a cookbook so im guessing amounts... but its basically this:

fry one big onion
3/4 package of mushrooms
and 2 carrots

fill pot with water
add 1/2 cup-3/4 cup barley (depending on your pot
a table spoon of salt
1/2 table spoon pepper

1 0r two tablespoons of tamari (or soy sauce if u dont have tamari) sauce

Its really delicious and easy to make! Pm me if you need any more info about this soup...

I have an excellent one but dairy

cream of mushroom soup
1 pound fresh mushrooms
1/4 c. margarine
4 green oinions
3 garlic cloves
1 tsp fresh thyme
2 tbsp flour
4 cups veg broth
1 cup light cream ( I use milk)
salt and pepper to taste..............

melt marge cook oions, garlic thyme
add sliced mushrooms till soft
add four
remove from stove and add stock
then return and let simmer for 2 mins
whisk cream and add, don't alow soup to boil

I usually make a double recipee

Looks good, but uses sherry, which I do not have any of.

happymom- I think I might try your recipe. I needed to make like 8 - 10 quart pot, would you know how big of a pot your recipe is for?

Tova - yours looks great, but I need it to be made pareve (I'd love to try yours some other time, but my dh doesn't eat mushrooms, so I'll have to find an occasion that I'm feeding other people as well)

this one is fabulous.

Saute
4 carrots, grated
2 stalks celery, grated
1 large onion, chopped fine
in
4 TBS. olive oil
for 15 minutes
add
8 cups water
1 cup barley
1 TBS. salt
1 tsp. pepper
5 TBS. onion soup mix
8 mushrooms sliced
and bring to a boil
reduce heat and simmer two hours.

ElTam, thanks for the recipe. I made it last night and everyone agreed it was a great, hearty winter soup!

OT, but, who is "recipe"
It says "guest" underneath the name. What does that mean?

for a creamy soup with using the spice and spirit recipe, add flour, make a roux with 2 table spoons of oil or marg and 3 table spoons of flour heat over a low flame then add to the soup pot heat the soup up to boiling then let it simmer for a few minutes,

I just made this soup and its very delicious! The only thing is all the water evaporated so I would deff add more water. It is also a bit salty, maybe cause I used beef consomme cause I could not find the onion. But this was my first succesful soup!! SOO yum


Saute

for 15 minutes
add
8 cups water
1 cup barley
1 TBS. salt
1 tsp. pepper
