things you've seen at an upsherinish? As far as anything from decorations, to cake, to invitations, etc. Also, there will be many non-frum guests, so I wanted to maybe put together a little booklet explaining the customs - any ideas of how to do this, or any special stories or info that you think must be included? I just want this simcha to really be extra special - for us and all who come to celebrate with us.

my sil did an aquatic theme. it was very cute and inexpensive. She used blue table clothes and on top of that inexpensive netting. she scattered sea shells on the table and had boat baloons. it was very cute.

adorable yarmulka centerpieces: cut a big styrofoam ball in half, paint them black (or any color for that matter), using puff paints create a border along the bottom (cute to write the kid's name, alef beis, trains or just a fancy design...)

Then, poke a pair of scissors, open, into the top of the yarmulka. Thread balloons through the handle.

I'll see if I can find a pic and post.

you could decorate black and white cookies to look like a boy with a yarmulka. with a toothpick and melted chocolate draw a face and payos in the white half. they look really cute.

Another cute cookie idea is to use gingerbread men dipped into chocolate for the yarmulke.
Also dip feet into choc for shoes, and use a bag with a small hole for piping eyes, nose and mouth. If you want to go really fancy, and it's available, use the rolled, white icing to cut out tzizis. They look adorable!

You could also have pekelech that look like tzitzus.

You use white bags, draw 2 black lines on the bottom and staple strings to it and just fill it with some nosh and you could leave it in a basket for kids to take as they leave.

I like all the cute things suggested yarmulka wise;) I say do a full yarmulka theme!!!

you can give you yarmulkas (I was at ________ upsehrnish)

get someone to come and paint kids names on yarmulkas

you can make any kind of cookie look like a yarmulka in diff colors, diff flavors... decorate the table... maybe even have the kids decorate their own yarmulka cookies!!!

There's the classic tzitzis cake. Bake a rectangular cake, cut out a triangle on top, frost white with 2 black stripes, and put strings in the corner.

When I made them for someone, I used plastic children's scissors. No harm could have been done...
