My husband was telling me about one of his clients, named Nissin Tzedakah. I was like NO WAY!!! He was wondering what my astonishment was about. I said, if the samech in Nissin was a Suf, that would be a very funny name.

(p.s. dh prounounced it wrong, it's Nissim)

I'm the one who wrote the original post about Rissel Russel. I think that she and Russy Russel are sister's-in-law. (I remember hearing something about it when she got engaged.)

Rissel seems to be a pet form of Rissa, itself from Rivka (from Jewishgen search)

My last name is Goldberg and we really wanted to name our daughter after my FIL, a''h, who often went by Goldie/Goldy as a nickname. Just couldn't do it. I kept saying, "why don't we just call her Richie Rich, like in the comic books". I felt like Zehava Goldberg would be too much of a joke in Israel......

DD is named after FIL, but it's a stretch Smile

I know a David Davis. And quite a few people named Moishy Moses (cousins of each other) AFAIK it was never an issue.

A lot of Iraqi Jews who came to Israel in the 50s didn't have last names and officials just used the first name of the patriarch of the family. Of course, since the tradition is to name the first son after the paternal grandfather, I know a few poor souls who ended up in the situation of having the same first and last name. I personally know an Ovadiah Ovadiah, a Shmuel Shmuel, and an Eliyahu Eliyahu. All the same story, named for Sabba who came to Israel in the 50s...

I know a Goldie Goldberg (not her given name, she married a Goldberg), and a Shoshana Rose (Rose is her surname, not a middle name).

I would love to name one of my children after my great-grandmther, but dh vetoed it. She had a fairly common name, but paired with our last name and our genes it would be torture for any young girl. Wink

I tried to convince him that some day she'd get married and lose the last name, but he seemed to think she'd be scarred for life.

It would be much worse than any soloman soloman or shmuel shmuel, by far.

Think along the line of a "Raizel Rose" with red hair and you'd almost be there.

But I still wish I could name after my g-grandma I loved her so much.

this reminds me of this gershon veroba song: (google switched things around, and I can't link the song, but here's the lyrics: http://veroba.net/album6.html#Coladas
