I've flown Continental and I've flown Delta.

Continental from Newark, Delta from Atlanta

I like Continental better than Delta, but both are ok
Two key success factors: age/size of airplane, and flight attendants

Continental flights are usually on newer planes. That means no disgusting restrooms, chairs that work, etc. My experience with Delta is that the plane from Atlanta (4 trips total) has always been older, more yucky airplane.

Continental flight attendants seem to be more diplomatic and patient. If you are traveling with kids, my pet peeve is waiting 10-15 minutes for anyone to notice the flight attendant light. Delta attendants are a bit more lazy. If they are the Israeli attendants, they only seem to take care of Sabras - you have to speak hebrew to them to get their attention. Delta has more kosher meals stocked, for last minute mistakes/changes.

Delta out of Atlanta is more low-key than from NY area - there's a lot more pushing and hustle/bustle on the NY flights.

However, price trumps all. If I can save $500 in tickets for the family, I go with Delta, but all things equal, I go with Continental.

Its so interesting, I have had such a different experience. I flew continental once, it was pretty good. We flew Delta to Atlanta 2 or 3 times and always have had such incredible experiences. The planes are always newer--great seats, more legroom and wonderful entertainment systems. The flight attendants are really helpful (esp if you have kids) and we love the flight. Unfortunately, the past 2 times we flew Elal b/c it was cheaper.

To NY the delta flight was as you described. Bad planes but I still found the flight attendants great.
When did you fly delta? I wonder if they changed?
