I pulsed the chickpeas first without the water, and it just looked wrong, so added the water back in, and they came out perfect (besides the few in the middle which crumbled, maybe my oil had cooled a bit).

I mince the onions and garlic in the food processor, maybe that provides enough liquid to keep them from crumbling.

That really stinks. I'm not sure what you're doing differently than me. This is the first time that I've written out a recipe with exact measurements - exactly how I made it.

I put the garlic and onion in the food processor, then I take it out and put the chickpeas in. I only do it separately b/c I have one of those tiny food processors for dairy.

I did that part, Defy. You don't want to know what happened next. Laughing

I have this huge falafel batter I keep adding things to to get it to fry. I think my next step is to add eggs. If that doesn't work I'll try more flour. If that doesn't work I'll try some lemon juice. If that doesn't work I'll try breadcrumbs.

Can you tell what I've been doing? Laughing

I made this tonight and it was amazing! I used a drop of oil in the pan for some, but found I preferred it with no oil at all in the nonstick! thanks so much for this recipe!

All I can say is your falafel balls must be defying gravity.

I am just surprised that yours keep crumbling- I just pureed everything into the blender until it all came together in a sticky mass, and then separated and pan fried them- delish- it is defiantly going in my family cookbook! Healthy, delish, easy, and cheap- how much better can it get? Very Happy Laughing Razz

Laughing Raisin.
I ended up adding an egg and that worked...until I had to turn the over.
We ate them anyway. I usually smush up the falafel ball for my kids in the pita, so it wasn't that much of a difference.

I hadn't made the recipe in awhile, so I made it last night, followed the recipe as it appears here, and they came out perfect. I didn't have any matzah meal, so I just used a half cup of matzah ball mix (practically the same thing, just has some spices added).

I finally bought a fleishig non-stick pan, so it was a lot quicker b/c I have a large food processor for meat, but not for dairy.

GR, are you using a nonstick frying pan?????

Well, that's why your falafel is crumbling!!!!!! Mine would crumble too if I didn't use a nonstick pan.

Why? What don't I know about stainless steel? Confused I fry everything in my regular frying pan.

There are certain foods that I can't make in a stainless steel pan. Even if you use oil, the bottom will still stick to the bottom of the pan and cause the item to crumble. That's why I didn't make falafel in my meat pan until I got a nonstick one.

Okay. One more mystery in life for me to ponder. Smile Everything else works just fine in that pan.

Me too. That's why I didn't buy it until now. I also will finally be able to fry polenta in that pan.

I'm so proud of myself, I actually bought a kitchen item AND toiveled it within a week! Too bad I forgot to bring the two items that need toiveling - that I bought 2 years ago.

Can I be proud of you too? I still have stuff sitting from before my wedding that needs toiveling. And here in CH, toiveling is no big deal.
