The only difference is the amount of molasses added. Dark brown has more. I think most recipes mean light brown sugar when they say brown sugar, unless they specify dark brown. I think dark brown is sweeter.

I thought the opposite- that if it just says brown, then it's refering to dark brown. dark brown def. has a stronger flavor to it. light brown is usually used for a caramely taste

Also, is there a difference between reg. light brown sugar and the granulated one? I found it to be interchangeable, but maybe someone knows different.

well for me the difference in color is the deciding factor, my cookies come out darker if I use the darker sugar - duh!

other than that, im gonna check the ingredients and see whats different

Im not sure ifI made this up but I recall hearing that light vs dark helps with how crispy the cookies are but not sure which is which
