Any advice for a hotel near the Jacob Javitz Convention Center (walking distance) that are clean and well priced?

if you're not too picky then you should do priceline.com and the option "name your own price" - u could pick the rating of the hotel and location (and their locations are pretty narrowed down) and that would be at wtvr price u write. I know I booked alot of hotels that way and I got great hotels (always picked 3 star or higher) for half or less than half of what it was spose to be. So if you just want s/t nice I would do that. But do any local New Yorkers or people who travel there frequently have anything specific to recommend?

I dont know the area - but a site like hotwire.com lets you chose the star rating, and gives you a specific area of NYC that the hotel will be in. because its NYC its a small section given, like 10 blocks by 10 blocks so its much more precise than something like priceline.

we stayed at the sheraton in Manhattan for around $150 - it was gorgeous!

I honestly dont know of any hotels in that area. If you go on travelocity or something, and type in manhattan, and give me a list of hotels, Id be more than glad to tell you which ones are closeby, which ones are in safe/nice areas, etc.
