We had some cake and liquor and pekalach for the kids (this in yeshivish school). There was no $$ involved. We didn't even know if we were going to send our son the that school.

DS's upsherin was on Friday, so we got fancy choc. cake and some pastries fot the Rebbe, we just got them same time we ordered pastries and cakes for upsherin. We also gave him all left over peckalach, and told him everything was for Shabbos Very Happy . This is first time I heard about giving money to rebbe for hachnosa l'cheder. BTW, upsherin was in Mir (Brooklyn), and DS did not end up going there.

But is he teaching them on the bus or just making sure they don't kill each other?

She meant a the bus monitor which is usually one of the rebbes.

I guess it doesn't hurt to 'shmear' all the right people right at the beginning.

(Gamzu, maybe you should have done that too!! Wink )

A bus monitor is called a Bus Rebbe because he's usually a Rebbe in the yeshiva too.

I never heard of giving the rebbe money in the beginning of the year. We give money at Purim.
