| With a straw, they have those Take and Toss Sippy cups, I'm not sure who makes it (the first years maybe?) BabiesRus has them, the pharmacy also sometimes has them in the baby section. You can either reuse them or throw them out. (we reuse them) It comes in a pack of all different colors.

| I've tried so many different brands and none of them were spill proof.

Me too! I love the playtex cups (after trying a few different brands) but I've never tried the kind with a straw yet.
At what age should you start those? (just curious...) _________________ "You can say this for ready-mixes - the next generation isn't going to have any trouble making pies exactly like mother used to make." ~Earl Wilson

| I start them around 18 months. I'm sure people start earlier though. My dd (she'll be 18m next week) is starting to bite the spouts off all my sippy cups. so we're getting ready to move on.

I start straws at around 9 months, but the Playtex ones are too big for tiny hands at that age
I actually like the Playtex tumblers starting at around 18 months for more of a cup action than stam straws -- they're easier to clean milk from

Tumblers are http://img.nextag.com/image/Playtex-Insulated-Spill-Proof/0/000/005/422/229/542222989.jpg -- there is no spout; just a raised section with a hole that's like drinking from a real tumbler that people use for coffee...but the inside has a valve to prevent spills. And it basically works very, very well. Well enough that my kids can bring them to bed safely (with water only of course ).
I only start at around 16-18 months because of the same problem I have with the straw ones -- they're too big. Otherwise, as soon as a kid knows how to drink from a cup, they have this mechanism down fine (also have to learn to mouth the raised area, but my kids picked up on it quickly with my coaching).

| L'maisa, for an older kid, I like this, even though it doesn't have a straw...it's still not a spouted sippy cup.

Oh, one other idea. If you want a straw, get The First Year straw cups, and get some of their take 'n toss snack bowls with lids. You can close the cup with one of those lids (without a straw opening), and then have your son take off that cap and put on the straw one in school. Regular straws fit in it too. I doubt at that age he'll be shaking it upside down to make spilling a problem. If it gets knocked over, spilling will be minimal or not at all (depending on how much liquid is in it), and with the other caps, you don't have to worry about spilling in transport.
I actually did this before

That's our main straw cup around here...my son has one in his bed (as well as a Playtex tumbler as he likes 2 ) and my other one has one in his crib...and there is one next to me on the floor, and yeah, I think I should buy stock in them
